Judge Mathis’ Wife Files For Divorce After 39 Years
Judge Mathis is going to be served divorce papers sometime soon. His wife, Linda Yvette Mathis, filed for divorce from the TV judge this week. They’ve been married for 39 years. Here is what has been revealed about the divorce proceedings.
Judge Mathis’ Wife Files For Divorce, Seeks Spousal Support
According to TMZ, Judge Mathis’ wife listed the date of separation as July 17 in court documents. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup.
Linda and the judge, whose full name is Gregory Ellis Matthis Sr., got married in 1985. During their marriage, they welcomed four children. However, each of their kids is over the age of 18 now. So, there won’t be any child support or custody hearings in his future.
That said, Judge Mathis’ estranged wife is requesting spousal support. She is also attempting to block Gregory’s ability to receive spousal support from her. It isn’t known if there was a prenup involved when the couple got married in the 80s (probably not).
When they got married, Gregory had just graduated college and it was 14 years before he would appear on television for the first time. The couple first met each other at Eastern Michigan University. Linda and Gregory dated for four years before they got engaged and eventually married.
As mentioned above, they share four children. They have two daughters Jade, 39, and Camara, 36, and two sons Greg Jr., 35, and Amir, 34.
The Couple Previously Spoke On TV About ‘Love & Support’
Judge Mathis appeared on TV for 24 years on his self-titled show Judge Mathis. During his time on the show, he presided over more than 13,000 cases. Last year, the show came to an end, but it was revived with Mathis Court With Judge Mathis. The new show premiered last fall on USA Network.

In 2022, the entire Mathis family appeared on television together in a show called Mathis Family Matters. “The star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is certainly my highest professional achievement,” the TV judge said on the show. “But I got to say, it was really my family that was the foundation of my success.”
He had some heartfelt words to share about his wife too. “After coming out of the streets in Detroit, Linda allowed me to work 15 hours a day, five, six days a week,” he said. “So it’s that support that allowed me to pursue the success that you see.”
Linda agreed with her husband at the time. She said, “Our love and support runs deep. That’s how the Mathis family rolls.”
Unfortunately, it looks like that love and support have come to an end after 39 years of marriage. It is not yet known how much spousal support Judge Mathis will have to pay, if any.
