Dancing With The Stars has announced the first celebrity contestant for the upcoming season. Olympic bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik was revealed as the first DWTS contestant for Season 33 on Good Morning America. Here is what you need to know about the Olympian and what he’ll bring to the dancing competition.

‘Pommel Horse Guy’ Got Team USA A Win

After being announced as one of the competitors for Season 33, Stephen showed off some of his pommel horse moves for the GMA audience. He will be the first male gymnast to appear on DWTS.

Stephen is known as the “pommel horse guy” online. He helped the USA men’s gymnastics teams to win bronze at the Paris Olympics, which was their first medal in 16 years. The bronze medalist described the win as the “greatest moment” of his life. Now, it is helping him land new opportunities like DWTS.

On top of being known as the “pommel horse guy,” Stephen Nedoroscik has also become recognized for his thick glasses. Folks on social media said they make him look like Clark Kent, and he certainly saved the men’s gymnastics team this year.

However, he didn’t wear his glasses while on the pommel horse. He explained that he doesn’t use his eyes for the pommel horse. Instead, he feels everything with his hands. Will he be able to do the same on DWTS?

“Yeah, I might have fun with it,” he said on GMA. “I’m scared they’ll fly off is the thing, but maybe we could do a gadget to keep them or maybe a new pair of glasses to match the theme, right? That’s what I’m thinking.”

The Olympian has become an advocate for people with low vision. He is cross-eyed and has coloboma, which occurs when a portion of the eye tissue is missing. A moment between Stephen and a fan with the same condition went viral.

The USA Gymnastics team shared a post on social media detailing the “really, really special moment” on Instagram. He gave pins to the young fan and got to spend a few minutes with him.

Stephen Was Excited To Accept DWTS Opportunity

He hopes to use his gymnastics knowledge on the dance floor. The Olympic bronze medalist told Robin Roberts, “I’m hoping to bring some of them. I want to bring some flares, I want to bring some of that gymnastics. Maybe a backflip or handstand. I want to have fun with it.”

When Stephen was approached about competing on Dancing With The Stars, he immediately accepted the opportunity. He’s excited about appearing in Season 33 of the dance competition.

Other competitors haven’t yet been revealed, but Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro will be returning to host DWTS. Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough will also be coming back to judge the competition show.

Dancing With The Stars Season 33 will premiere on Tuesday, September 17 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC and Disney+. New episodes will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
