‘Poltergeist’ House Is On Sale For First Time In Decades
The house from Poltergeist is up for sale. This is the actual house used in the movie, and it is loaded with plenty of urban legends. However, the realtor selling the house is playing off the legends from the horror movie and promises the house is “definitely not haunted.”
Here is what you need to know about the famous house that is up for sale.
Poltergeist House Up For Sale For First Time In 45 Years
An ad went up, and it appears that the house used in the movie Poltergeist is for sale. This is the first time the house has been on the market in 45 years. The movie is based on the supposedly haunted Herrmann House in Long Island. However, this house is located in Simi Valley, California.
The Poltergeist house, located outside Los Angeles, was listed for $1.174 million. It has a 16,000-square-foot lot, four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a large swimming pool, and a jacuzzi.
The official address is 4267 Roxbury Street in Simi Valley, California. The company selling the house is Equity Union Real Estate. The listing reads, “Well-loved by its original owners, this charming 4 bedroom, 2 1/2-bathroom home is ready to welcome a new family, without the ghostly antics, we promise!”
What To Know About The Poltergeist House
In the original movie, Steven Spielberg created the story. He wanted Stephen King to help co-write the script, but King was unavailable, so Michael Grais and Mark Victor co-wrote it with him instead. Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Salem’s Lot) directed the movie.
The film tells the story of a family tormented by a poltergeist haunting their home. The scenes involving the young daughter seeing the ghosts on her TV remain terrifying. The finale with the skeletons from the Indian burial ground the home was built on just topped it off.
However, the true terror came with the tragedy surrounding the movie’s cast and crew. In Poltergeist Curse on the E! True Hollywood Story, crew members said unexplainable things happened during filming in the house. They even conducted an actual exorcism on the set. However, there were also deaths that occurred.
Dominique Dunne, who played the older daughter, Dana, was murdered a few months after the movie’s release. Julian Beck, who played Reverend Henry Kane in Poltergeist II, died a few months after wrapping filming. Poltergeist II star Will Sampson also died shortly after finishing the film.
Carol Anne Freeling, who played the iconic little girl, Heather, in the original movie died when she was 12. She had just finished filming Poltergeist III when she passed away.
