Julianne Hough Breaks Silence On Being Sexually Assaulted As A Child
Suffering through horrific childhood abuse is something no one should ever face. Even decades afterward, it can cause tremendous pain and mental anguish to the victim. Now, Dancing With The Stars hostess Julianne Hough is bravely sharing her story with the world.
It’s not an easy subject, but her story can resonate with so many listeners all over the world. She wants to spread awareness about the problem and help others who have been in her situation.
Julianne Hough Opens Up About Painful Childhood Trauma
The Jamie Kern Lima Show just put out a new episode entitled, “Julianne Hough: How to Reclaim Your Voice, Journey to Healing and Step Into Your Power!”
In the episode, the 36-year-old details an incredibly traumatic chapter of her life. She admitted she never publicly talked about her childhood sexual abuse in an interview before, so this was a turning point in her healing journey.
The abuse began when Julianne was four years old. It involved a neighbor near her home in Utah. Sadly, no one really knew how to handle the situation, and prompt action wasn’t taken.
“There was not a lot of repercussion for what had happened – and by the way, I’m not the only one in my family that had gone through similar things. And so that was a very challenging thing to come to terms with,” the professional dancer shared. “Nobody did anything.”
The Dancer Worked Incredibly Hard To Move Forward In Life
Naturally, the DWTS hostess admitted it was a very confusing time in her childhood. In the interview, she added that she blocked out a lot of the trauma. However, old memories started to resurface once she started the path to healing.
“I started sharing those things, but I had forgot about the neighbor thing at 4 years old until I started really doing this work in the last few years,” Julianne continued.
She went on to share that her parents felt incredibly guilty in the aftermath. However, they’ve had long, difficult talks and worked on repairing their relationship.
“At the time, when I was younger, I think they also didn’t know what to do. And were also in a position of not feeling capable or also feeling helpless,” the DWTS hostess continued. “We’ve definitely gone through conversation after conversation like, ‘But we get it now, right? And we’re on the same page? I’m not blaming you now, but I definitely needed more at the time.'”
