Today Costars Throw Hoda A 60th Birthday Celebration

On Monday, August 12, the Today crew returned from Paris after being away for two weeks. Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and more of the hosts on the morning talk show made their way back to their posts.

Hoda and the rest of the NBC team were excited to reunite with fellow Today stars like Jenna Bush Hager, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer. However, they had something up their sleeves to welcome Hoda back and things got emotional.

Her colleagues put together a 60th birthday celebration for the beloved talk show host. Hoda Kotb’s birthday fell on August 9. So, she was still in Paris covering the 2024 Olympics, but that didn’t stop her Today family from putting something special together.

The show focused on a few of the people who Hoda has had an impact on over the years. “We are a wonderful village that works with you every day, and we know you, our friend, our partner, we love her so much. And many, many other people are right there with us, they adore you too,” Savannah Guthrie said of her colleague.

Then a video montage of some of Hoda’s past interviewees started playing. Savannah said each one of them was someone “whose lives you have touched over the years, and who also deeply impacted you.”

Some of the videos that were featured in the montage included interviews with Asha and Devon Still. Their daughter Leah survived a cancer diagnosis and was featured in a segment on Today. Another clip showed Bart Conley, whose wife tragically died after battling breast cancer. It also featured Frank and Stacey Parrado who spoke with Hoda about their adoption journey, which is close to Hoda Kotb’s heart.

Hoda’s daughters, Haley and Hope, joined in on the fun too.

“It’s too much,” Hoda tearfully said. Then, Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie informed her that each of those people stopped by The Today Show to surprise her for her birthday.

Devon Still spoke about what Hoda did for their family. “Our story was really big, and for a lot of people, it was just a story. But with Hoda it was different, it was like a connection, and I knew that when she caught a train to Philadelphia, incognito […] that’s when I knew you were real,” he said.

After catching up with each of her special guests, Hoda Kotb gave an emotional thank you to her Today family. “Thank you, this is the best birthday, thank you, thank you, thank you,” she exclaimed.

“This is your legacy, people,” Savannah told her. “All the people who get to know you and love you. What you do for us, thank you.”
