Kansas City Chiefs: Will Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes Play In Preseason?
The 2024 NFL preseason has kicked off. While there are fewer games than usual in the preseason, there are still worries about playing major stars. This has some Kansas City Chiefs fans wondering if they will see Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce out in game action before the season starts.
As the preseason gets underway, Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid revealed his plans for his two big starters.
Will Travis Kelce Or Patrick Mahomes Play In The Preseason?
The Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars play in an NFL preseason game on Saturday night. When asked if his star quarterback and tight end would play in the preseason game, Reid surprised many with his answer. The head coach said Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce would play.
When asked about their playing time, Andy Reid said that both starters would be out in the game and would end up playing for a full quarter. Many times, NFL teams will bring out a starting quarterback or other skill position player, give them one or two series, and then let them sit out the rest of the game.
The preseason games don’t count for anything and are mostly used to evaluate younger stars. However, getting the starters in there for a couple of drives is important to get them ready for the regular season, which starts at the beginning of September.
“As far as the play time for this game, we’ll go the ones for a quarter,” Reid said (via The U.S. Sun). “Twos for the second quarter, threes the third quarter, and fours for the fourth quarter, and we’ll just keep it at that.” That signifies the rank. The second-string quarterback and Travis Kelce’s backup is a “two.” The “threes” are third-stringers, and the “fours” are the young players trying to make the team.
Patrick Mahomes Likes The Preseason
After practice this week, Patrick Mahomes said that he loves to play in the preseason. He also said he likes to get hit, as long as it isn’t too hard. It gets him ready for when the games start to count.
However, Kelce hasn’t said anything about the playing time. He has had a lot on his mind lately. His girlfriend, Taylor Swift, just had to cancel her concert dates due to a terrorist threat. The concerts were in Austria, and the government learned of the threat and started making arrests. Thankfully, Swift canceled the shows, and nothing ended up happening.
