‘American Idol’ Champ Lee DeWyze Faces His Demons On New Single
American Idol winner Lee DeWyze has come a long way since he first won the crown on his season of the reality singing competition. Recently, he opened up about his latest single, including the demons he had to face in order to share the message that he does in the song.

American Idol champ Lee DeWyze won the crown for his season all the way back in 2010. He beat out the rest of the competition in order to be the winner. Since then, he has managed to carve out a successful career for himself. He has come a long way in the years since he first set foot on the set.
DeWyze was just 23 years old when he got enough courage together to put himself at the mercy of the judges. Luckily for him, his deep vocal tone and rasp were enough to make him stand out in the early auditions. As American Idol fans later saw, it was also enough to carry him all the way across the finish line in the end.
DeWyze Had To Dig Deep To Sustain A Career
All these years later, since winning the American Idol crown, Lee DeWyze is still writing and recording records. That is always a good sign, as it can be easy for stars to fall from the spotlight if they slack and don’t continue putting the work in.
As of this writing, Lee DeWyze is gearing up for the release of his latest album, Gone For Days. This marks his sixth major studio release. Lee recently spoke about how he wanted to do things differently with this new record. While he is used to recording in Los Angeles, he traded that in for Virginia, writing and recording the rest of the record there.

Lee DeWyze Had To Get Vulnerable And Face His Demons On New Record
Speaking of his new record, Lee DeWyze told PEOPLE: “I just let it fly. I just wanted to write from a very honest, vulnerable, real place. And I did.”
One example of this vulnerability is Lee’s newest single, Devil In The Details. Folky acoustic guitars meld with DeWyze’s deep vocals, providing the perfect backdrop for his rich storytelling. In this aspect, the country influences come through in a big way as well, while still being mainstream pop enough to appeal to larger audiences.
Trading in Los Angeles for Virginia seems to have worked wonders for the singer’s creative process. He took an honest look at himself, and this song certainly reflects that.
Speaking of this new single, DeWyze said: “I really allowed myself to dive into some of those things that I think a lot of people are afraid to talk about. The thing I like about this song is that it touches on the experience of what it feels like to not know all the answers.”
