New Reality TV Show Based On Competitive Barbecuing Coming
There are reality competition shows for many things, and the newest one might surprise you. However, anyone who lives in the South and has spent any time at the county or state fairs should know how popular competitive barbequing is. That is the subject of the upcoming BBQ High docuseries coming to Magnolia Network.
Here is what you need to know.
BBQ High Bringing The World Competitive Barbequing
As expected, BBQ High follows competitive barbecuing in Texas. However, this isn’t just some guys competing on their grills at the State Fair of Texas. This show follows high school students who compete on their high school barbecue teams for a chance to win the state championship.
“It’s our way of life,” one student says in the trailer for the series. BBG High airs on Magnolia Network, the television network owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines.
According to the trailer. “Texas High School Barbecue brings hundreds of high schools together from across the state to compete and find out who’s the best of the best.” These high school students use their grilling skills to whip up everything from brisket, chicken, and smoked ribs, to everything in between.
The show will not only watch these teens in action, but it will allow you to get to know them and hear why they love barbecuing so much. They also talk about why this competition is so important to them.
What Is BBQ High About?
There are plenty of activities in high school. However, it is no longer just about athletic competitions and scholastic competitions. For kids who can’t play sports or aren’t on the level of students who compete for academic scholarships, there are new competitions like esports and now barbecuing competitions.
“For those high school kids who don’t play any other sport, this is their sport,” one of the barbecue team coaches reveals. One of the teens also admits in the trailer that “Barbeque is definitely one of the areas in high school that I felt like I belonged.”
“It’s overwhelming for me to figure out my future, but making really good food, it makes me happy,” another student said.
In addition to the heartwarming stories, barbecue competitions seem to be high-pressure events, and it isn’t just about throwing on an apron and cooking up some meat. “If you want to win something like this,” one of the coaches said, “you gotta put the work in.”
BBQ High premieres Sunday, August 18 at 1 p.m. ET on Magnolia Network. There will be a new episode every Sunday, and they will stream the same day on Max and Discovery+.
