Netflix Announces New Laci Peterson Murder Doc
Now that Scott Peterson has decided to break his silence about the murder of his wife, Laci Peterson, streaming services are racing to release their documentaries. Netflix has announced its own true crime series about Laci just as Peacock is prepping to release a series with her husband. Here is what has been revealed about the upcoming series and what viewers can expect.
Netflix Teases New Laci Peterson Docuseries
On Tuesday, the official Instagram account for Netflix shared a teaser for the docuseries. In the caption, they wrote, “One of the most infamous true crime cases, 20 years later with new, exclusive information and Laci’s mother and friends speaking for the first time.”
The trailer video shows interviews with several of Laci Peterson’s loved ones, including her mom Sharon Rocha. Sharon recalled when Laci and Scott first met. Her daughter told her a lot about him before she got the chance to meet him and she had a bad feeling about him then. “I have learned to go with a gut feeling,” Sharon said in the clip.
Netflix’s synopsis for the three-part docuseries says American Murder: Laci Peterson will include “news clips, interrogation footage, and courtroom cameras to bring the dramatic disappearance, investigation, and trial into focus.” There will also be interviews with reporters, lawyers, jurors, and detectives who will recount “their experiences in real-time.”
The synopsis continues, “It also features a conversation with Amber Frey, the woman with whom Scott was living a double life at the time of Laci’s disappearance — and whose willingness to participate with law enforcement led to major breakthroughs in the case.”
Scott Peterson Maintains His Innocence
This is the second docuseries that will be released about the Laci Peterson case in recent history. One week ago, Peacock announced its own documentary, Face To Face With Scott Peterson.
Scott was arrested in 2003 and charged with two counts of murder. His wife, Laci Peterson, was eight months pregnant when she disappeared. Eventually, she was found dead and Scott was the suspect investigators had their sights set on.
He was found guilty of the first-degree murder of his wife and the second-degree murder of their unborn son, Connor. Initially, Scott Peterson was handed down a death sentence, but that was overturned in 2020. He was resentenced in 2021 and received life in prison without the possibility of parole.
To this day, Scott maintains that he is innocent. The Los Angeles Innocence Project announced that it would be taking on Scott’s case earlier this year. The organization believes that there is new evidence that would absolve Scott of the crime.
His attorney has addressed the Innocence Project stepping in. They said, “I will confirm that we are thrilled to have the incredibly skilled attorneys at the L.A. Innocence Project and their expertise becoming involved in the efforts to prove Scott’s innocence.”
Netflix’s docuseries American Murder: Laci Peterson premieres on the streaming platform on Wednesday, August 14. Then, Face To Face With Scott Peterson will premiere on Peacock the following week on Tuesday, August 20.
