Former ‘DWTS’ Winner Reveals Panic Over Son’s Medical Emergency
One former Dancing With The Stars winner just shared that her son suffered a frightening medical emergency. Although the situation seems more stable now, she revealed it was the most frightening experience during her time as a parent so far.
Keep reading to see what happened.
Dancing With The Stars Champ Shawn Johnson Detailed A Scary Situation
Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson won Dancing With The Stars back in Season 8 when she was just 17 years old. She and Mark Ballas won the Mirrorball Trophy out of 13 couples.
Since then, she went on to marry former NFL player Andrew East. They have three children, daughter Drew, 4, son Jett, three, and their one-year-old son Barrett, who commonly goes by “Bear.”
The family of five traveled to Paris to watch the Olympic games. However, things haven’t quite gone according to plan.
Traveling abroad with young children can be daunting in itself. But the stakes are even higher when the children become ill. And that’s the precise situation the East family found themselves in this week.
“Behind the scenes the past week has been a rollercoaster. Jett got a severe case of croup and woke up in the middle of the night (5 nights ago) unable to breathe,” Shawn shared on her Instagram stories. The DWTS champion confessed it was one of the most frightening moments in her time as a mother, especially since they were abroad.
The good news is that Jett feels much better. However, the baby, Bear, now has croup. Thankfully, he’s in excellent hands and receiving the care he needs.
“Grateful for Team USA house doctors and locals who have helped us find the care they needed,” the mother of three shared with her followers.
This Isn’t The First Time Jett Needed Prompt Medical Attention
Even more frighteningly, this isn’t the first time the East family has suffered a health emergency with their children.
As reported by Us Weekly, Shawn rushed young Jett to the emergency room after a fall back in April. The little boy apparently fell and smacked his forehand on a metal bedframe.
“Drew went down and I heard Jett crying, like unusually, and I went straight into his room,” the former Olympian shared with her fans. “And literally when I opened the door I could just see the blood on his face. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh.’ I was like, ‘Andrew! Andrew!’ I picked Jett up and I was like, ‘You’re OK buddy, you’re OK, you’re OK.’ But I knew immediately, I was like, ‘We’re going to the ER.’”
Aside from the children’s illnesses, it seems like the family is making wonderful memories in Europe. Hopefully, they have a more positive experience until they can return home to Tennessee.
