Mama June Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ & Josh Efird Divorce Fake For Ratings?

It was a shocker when Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird filed for divorce from Josh Efird after six years of marriage. They seemed to be happy together and could barely keep their paws off of one another. Mama June was in disbelief when she learned that Pumpkin was pregnant again just months after welcoming Bentley. Even Covid could not stop the couple from being together and ultimately welcoming twins. It appeared that they were in it for the long haul but they did meet and have their first daughter, Ella, when Pumpkin was just seventeen. Along with that, they took in Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson very early into their marriage.

It has been a lot to handle and to top it all off, Pumpkin’s eldest sister, Anna Cardwell was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in early 2023. This took a toll on the whole family and when Anna passed in December 2023, Pumpkin struggled mentally. Josh noted that he had never seen his wife like that and did not know what to do. Then, the season ended, and within weeks, she filed for divorce. Was this a strategic move since her aunt, Doe Doe Shannon shared the show has yet to be renewed?

This could be the perfect storyline as it is completely unexpected and something no one would have ever seen coming. Fans in a Facebook group shared their thoughts and a Reddit thread was started, as well:

  • I’m thinking it’s some type of scam going on. Probably needed some benefits or assistance. Or another story for their tv show
  • Maybe THIS is the plot for next season?
  • I think it’s a scheme at an attempt for another season.

The Truth Of The Matter

Though they very well could have been better off as friends, fans have two theories. The first is that this was to secure another season of Mama June: Family Crisis. It does scream “renewal” and it would be interesting to watch the downfall of the relationship while they navigate a co-parenting situation. However, there is also the idea they needed money and, if they divorced, Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird and Josh Efird would get more government assistance. Currently, she has her boutique, The Sisters Closet but it is unclear what he does for a living.

Do you think they are scamming viewers to get another season? More so, who do you think concocted this idea? Or, are they just better off as friends? Let us know in the comments below.
