Buyer Beware

Admittedly, Alabama Barker feels pressure to fit a certain look. She said, “But I’m on weight-loss medication because I’m tired of being fat and photographing like a da*n ogre.” While Alabama is seemingly getting the results she wanted, it may come with a price. Not only are weight loss drugs often expensive, but a nutritionist talks about the danger of using them at a young age. If they are started too early when they aren’t necessarily needed, they can have “adverse effects.”

Specifically, nutritionist Rania Batayneh says weight loss medications could “set teenagers up for failure long term.” Further warning, “This is about metabolic disruption in that young age group,” especially for people who aren’t “clinically overweight.” Drugs like Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Trulicity, can confuse a normally function system. Rania mentions, “This will impact natural metabolic processes and appetite regulation simply because teenagers burn more naturally.”

Alabama Barker Might Be Getting More Than What She Is Bargaining For

Additionally, other issues are, “When you add an appetite suppressant and restrict caloric intake, the metabolism will take a hit because of the young age.” Furthermore, there can be consequences that don’t meet the eye. Moreover, Rania states, “There are also psychological impacts when a teenager is not eating healthily.” Likewise, immediate gratification can lead to long-term effects such as, “They could develop a bad relationship with food and have adverse effects when they decide to eat.”
