Taylor Swift Speaks Out About Stabbing At Swiftie Event
Taylor Swift has recently spoken out about a horrific incident that occurred in the United Kingdom. A stabbing left two children dead and the entire community has been shaken by the event. Keep reading to see what the pop star had to say about the tragedy.
Taylor Swift Offers Condolences To Southport Families
The 34-year-old superstar took to Instagram to offer her condolences on Tuesday. “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock,” Taylor Swift wrote via her Instagram Story. “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families and first responders.”
“These were just little kids at a dance class,” the Love Story singer continued. “I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
Two children were killed on Monday, July 29, during a Swift-themed dance and yoga class in Southport, England. The stabbing that occurred also injured nine other children present at the event, six of whom are in critical condition. Two adults also remain in critical condition at this time.
The stabbing took place at The Hart Space. It is a studio in Southport that offers a wide range of classes for mothers, babies, and children. This class was hosted by two women and targeted at kids ages 6 to 11.
Royal Family Share Their Thoughts With Affected Families
Merseyside Police Department officers responded to the scene around 11:50 a.m. local time after receiving several reports of a stabbing. A 17-year-old was taken into custody as the suspected stabber. The teen was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said, “We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked.”
She continued, “As a mum of two daughters, and the nana of a 5-year-old granddaughter, I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering the families of the victims are currently going through and I want to send them our heartfelt condolences and sympathies.”
Members of the Royal Family also spoke out about the tragedy. King Charles III and his wife Camilla shared a statement. They said, “My wife and I have been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in Southport today. We send our most heartfelt condolences, prayers, and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and to all those affected by this truly appalling attack.”
Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton also issued a statement via social media. They wrote, “As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through.”
The statement continued, “We send our love, thoughts, and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack. Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most.”
