Candace Bure Speaks On Paris Olympics Last Supper Controversy
Candace Cameron Bure is one of many celebrities weighing in on the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The ceremony has been the center of controversy after a drag performance seemed to mock the Last Supper. Despite reports correcting the debates online, Candace Bure is doubling down on her opinion on the matter.
Candace Cameron Bure Calls Out Opening Ceremony For Mockery
The Full House alum posted a long rant about the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on her Instagram Story on Saturday. Candace said that the entire performance “completely blasphemed and mock[ed] the Christian faith.”
She continued, calling the production “disgusting.” More than that, she was sad about what she was seeing.
The 48-year-old actress said, “It made me so sad, and someone said, ‘You shouldn’t be sad. You should be mad about it.’ I’m like, ‘Trust me, it makes me mad, but I’m more sad because I’m sad for souls.’”
Candace continued, “I pray for my heart to break over what breaks God’s heart and I just think about all the people that have rejected the gospel of Jesus Christ or don’t know the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
After posting her lengthy rant on her Story, many people responded to Candace. On Sunday, she posted the full video to her feed, doubling down on how she feels.
Celebrities Weigh In On Paris Olympics Controversy
Many people reached out to Candace Bure in an attempt to correct her, stating that the drag performance was supposed to be an interpretation of the festival of Dionysus. The former The View co-host wasn’t buying it though.
“[He] is a god of lust, insanity, religious ecstasy, ritual madness etc.,” Candace wrote. “I still don’t see how that relates to unifying the world through competitive sports and acceptable for children to watch. In any case, I’m not buying it.”

Candace Cameron Bure isn’t the only celebrity to speak out about the Paris Olympics opening ceremony either. Harrison Butker, who is the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, called the drag performance “crazy.”
Like Candace, Harrison took to his Instagram Story to share his thoughts. He posted a Bible verse from Galatians about how “God is not mocked.”
A spokesperson for the 2024 Paris Olympics told Page Six that “there was never an intention to show disrespect towards any religious group or belief.” They continued, saying that Thomas Jolly, the artistic director for the opening ceremony, may have taken some inspiration from Leonardo De Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper.” However, they pointed out, he “is not the first artist” to do something like that.
RuPaul’s Drag Race star Nicky Doll was part of the Paris Olympics performance as well as several other winners from Drag Race France. Season 3 champ, Le Filip, fawned over those who participated in the performance, calling it “amazing.”
“It felt like a crowning all over again,” Le Filip said. “I am proud to see my friends and queer people on the world stage.”
