Kurt Iswarienko, Shannen Doherty’s ex-husband, could potentially challenge their divorce in court and inherit the late star’s millions. Kurt signed off on the divorce papers the same day Shannen died. This is where things get a little tricky, legally speaking.

Kurt Iswarienko Signed The Divorce Papers The Day Shannen Died

Although Kurt signed away all of his rights to Shannen’s estate in the divorce, there is still the possibility that he could be the sole heir. An expert explained to The U.S. Sun how this could potentially happen.

Shannen Doherty died on Saturday, July 13 after a long battle with cancer. The day before she passed away, she was able to finalize her divorce from Kurt. Then he signed off on the official documents that day she died.

A judge signed off on the divorce on the Monday following Shannen’s death. However, Kurt’s signature and its timing have raised questions about whether or not the divorce is valid.

“What people need to know is, when they sign a divorce agreement, it is absolutely, very final,” the expert Morghan Richardson told the publication. “It’s very hard to undo a divorce agreement once it’s signed.”

The marital attorney said that what makes this instance interesting is that Kurt signed it the same day Shannen Doherty died. “So to me, if I were his attorneys, I would be looking into, did he sign it after she died?” they continued. “Is there a way to open that agreement back up and question, was it valid?”

Apparently, if one party dies in the middle of divorce proceedings, the case can be deemed abated by death. “That means they just don’t get divorced, it’s just done,” Morghan said. “The case is over, and then it gets dragged over to the probate court.”

Could Kurt Claim The Shannen Doherty Estate?

The divorce was signed off on by a judge on Monday, July 15. In the judgment was the settlement agreement, which included the details of Shannen and Kurt’s divorce.

Shannen Doherty was awarded their home in Malibu, along with everything inside it. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star also got several cars and a Salvador Dali painting in the split. On top of that, she was given rights to Kurt’s photography business, which included half of the licensing fees from the sale of any photos and videos taken while they were married.

Additionally, Shannen made sure that Kurt was prohibited from “exploiting” her image after she passed away.

The court documents read, “Any and all photographs of [Shannen] that are now in [Kurt’s] possession, regardless of when said photographs were created by [Kurt], shall be removed from Respondent’s website forthwith. [Kurt] shall oversee the removal of said photographs from the websites of any and all of his representatives, including his agents. [Kurt] shall be prohibited from exploiting the photographs of [Shannen].”

The Charmed star was also granted 100% of several accounts, which included her SAG pension plan. In the judgment, they both waived inheritance rights and social security benefits. However, Morghan said this could be challenged in court.

Kurt Iswarienko has not indicated if he plans to try and challenge the divorce in court or not. Let’s hope he allows his ex-wife to rest in peace.
