‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood’s Daughter Ready To Be Adopted
Is Teen Mom star Amber Portwood’s daughter, Leah Shirley, ready to be adopted? She has already blocked her mother on social media and it seems that she wants little to do with her. So, is the next step a much more legal one? Keep reading for more details on what will happen next.
Amber Portwood Bails On Leah
Since Leah Shirley was little, her father, Gary Shirley has been the primary caretaker. Amber Portwood was first seen on 16 & Pregnant when she and Gary tried to make their relationship work. The two even got engaged but Amber was far too combative and it was not a healthy situation. She moved on with a few other men, even having a son with Andrew Glennon. However, her mental health struggles and other issues seemingly prevented her from being a present parent no matter how many chances she got.
As for Gary, he moved on with Kristina and the two tied the knot, becoming a family. They even had a daughter together, Emilee, and have shown how functional they are. In the new season of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Amber was seen calling Leah a “d*ck” at her birthday dinner. Not only was she late to the party but was upset when Leah did not want to hear about her new boyfriend. Now, it seems that Leah is done with her mother completely and wants to be adopted. According to People, Gary opened up about it on this week’s Teen Mom.

He explained to his wife, Kristina how he’s been encouraging Amber Portwood to reach out to Leah. Though Amber claims that she has, she is tired of being met with no response or resistance:
“I messaged Amber recently. I said, ‘You need to reach out to Leah. You need to say hi or something. A text or something.’ She messaged me back, ‘I’ve texted and called Leah a million times! No answer, nothing ever back. I’ve done everything to be in her life, I’ve gotten crapped on. I never get to spend time with her. I’m tired of being unhappy and fighting for attention from everyone. I’m not a horrible person, I’m a loving mother. I refuse to live a miserable life anymore.’”
Neither Gary nor Kristina wants to tell Leah about what Amber has said. She has given up and Gary added that Leah is of the age where she needs a mother she can depend on. More so, someone who does not make it all about herself. He ends up on a boys’ trip later where he shares what has gone down and how Amber is never around.
Leah Wants Kristina To Adopt Her
As Gary Shirley and the boys are chatting, he explains how Leah wants and needs a consistent female role model. That is not Amber Portwood and he even emphasizes he does not want to speak poorly of her, either. Then, Cory Wharton chimed in with how Kristina is one of the core people who is always there for Leah. Gary soon dropped the bomb about Leah wanting to be adopted:
“Trust me, the best thing that ever happened to Leah was Kristina. Kristina is a loving parent. And Leah’s wanting to be adopted by Kristina.”
Kristina is completely on board only Amber has no idea this is what Leah wants. He is at the point where he will let her think more on this because it is not a light decision. Once she is firm on it, then Amber will be brought into it.
