The former President escaped with just a minor injury to the ear, but the incident united the majority of the country, who agreed that violence was unacceptable.

Former Bachelor star Nick Viall was among the celebrities who reacted to the shooting on social media. The reality star shared his thoughts on an Instagram post, calling the assassination attempt an “incredibly sad” moment for the United States. He wrote that he hoped it would be a “wake up call to stop demonizing people who share different political beliefs and values.”

His call for unity didn’t go over well with all of his followers.

Part of Nick Viall’s message called for a return to people “living in peace with our differences.” However, one follower took to the comments to call the Special Forces star out for showing his privilege.

In the follower’s opinion, the issue went far beyond a simple difference of beliefs. They wrote that human rights were at risk amid restrictions on women’s access to health care and the war on the transgender community.

Nick Viall stood firm in his response to the comment. “What will destroy our country is further promoting hysteria and fear,” he wrote in reply to the follower.

However, the major pushback from his followers caused Nick Viall to clarify his political leanings. He added a lenghty disclaimer in the comment section.

“This isn’t a statement about my political beliefs or who I support politically. I want there to be a country for my daughter and family to grow up in. It won’t always be perfect, we will always fight for her and our rights. I just want a country for her to exist.”

Nick Viall and his wife, Natalie Joy, welcomed a daughter, River Rose, in February.
