‘NCIS: Origins’ Gets Release Date, Supersized Premiere
There is some big news for fans of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his prequel series NCIS: Origins. While we already learned the release date when CBS announced its fall schedule, some new news makes it even better for fans anxiously anticipating the new series.
Additionally, the NCIS: Origins premiere will be a supersized episode. Here is what you need to know.
NCIS: Origins Release Date To Offer Supersized Episode
The first episode of NCIS: Origins will arrive on CBS immediately following the NCIS Season 22 premiere. The date for this premiere is Monday, October 14, and the first episode of the new franchise series will be at 9/8c that night. NCIS airs at 8/7c.
However, this time slot is for one week only. That is because the first episode of NCIS: Origins is a two-hour premiere. This will allow fans to get plenty of information as they meet the new actors playing Gibbs and his allies, some familiar characters and others new.
After the premiere, the show will move to the 10/9c timeslot. The regular NCIS series will then move to 9/8c after the premiere. Once they move, the 8/7c hours will feature two sitcoms — The Neighborhood Season 7 and the series premiere of Poppa’s House, starring Damon Wayans.
This isn’t a big change for fans because NCIS: Origins will air in the spot that the now-canceled NCIS: Hawai’i was airing in. Also, the next day, the episodes will be added to Paramount+ for people who watch their shows on the streaming service.
What To Expect From NCIS: Origins
NCIS: Origins will tell the origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he starts his career in 1991 as a new agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office in California. While there, he becomes an agent on a team led by Mike Franks (who was also a major character on the regular NCIS).
The series starts right after the tragic events that shaped Gibbs’s career — the deaths of his first wife, Shannon, and daughter, Kelly. They died in a car crash caused by the drug dealer Pedro Hernandez.
The series will be very different since it takes place in 1991. Much of the technology the team uses on the main show did not exist then, at least not in the same form it does now. Forensics was different so they had to investigate the cases differently.
Austin Stowell (Catch-22) stars as the young Gibbs, although Mark Harmon is returning to provide a voice-over similar to Jim Parsons on Young Sheldon.
