Jenn Tran Reacts To Lack Of Diversity In Her ‘Bachelorette’ Suitors
Diversity has been a big issue in Bachelor Nation for years. Jenn Tran speaks out about the lack of Asian men on her upcoming Bachelorette season. Keep reading to find out if she thinks the casting department did a good job.
What To Know About Season 21 Bachelorette Premiere
The popularity of The Bachelor dating show in 2002 led the network to create a spinoff featuring a female lead. Trista Sutter was the first Bachelorette in 2003. She’s still with her final rose winner, Ryan Sutter. The couple live in Denver, Colorado, with their two children.
Trista and Ryan set the standard for future couples from the show. After 20 seasons, the Bachelorette finally has its first Asian-American lead in Jenn Tran. She was a contestant on Joey Graziadei’s season of The Bachelor. She was sent home in Week 7. There’s some debate whether she was the third pick as Bachelorette after Daisy Kent and Maria Georgas said no.
Regardless of whether she was the first choice or last choice, Jenn Tran is the next Bachelorette. And her season starts soon. Season 21 premieres on ABC on Monday, July 8, at 8 PM Eastern.
Jenn Tran Reacts To Lack Of Diversity In Her Suitors
Diversity is a hot topic in the entertainment industry at the moment. But Bachelor Nation fans have been complaining for years that the ABC dating franchise isn’t diverse when it comes to race or body type.
You’d think with an Asian-American Bachelorette, the network would bring in a diverse group of suitors. Instead, the majority of the 25 contestants are white.
The lack of diversity has been a huge talking point on social media and Jenn Tran was finally asked about it. The topic was brought up during an interview with Glamour magazine. Jenn confessed that it was “unfortunate” that the show didn’t have more Asian men as suitors.
“Asian men haven’t always seen themselves in this position, and I am hoping that me being here and Thomas N. being there, that the both of us can inspire other Asian men to realize that they can do this too if they want. They can be in this position as well. I’m hoping that it inspires them.”
As for Thomas N., she revealed that they connected on their respective background as children of immigrants. Fans will have to tune in to see if their connection goes deeper, especially after he was involved in a confrontation with another suitor.
