‘General Hospital’ Bringing Back Two Fan Favorites
General Hospital is bringing in a lot of new cast members over the next month. While it is exciting to see some new faces, there is also the danger of bringing in too many new people at once. The good news is that two of the returning faces are popular ones from the past that fans should be more than happy to see.
Here is who is coming back to General Hospital and what fans are saying.
General Hospital Bringing Back Two Favorites
The two biggest names coming back to General Hospital are Rick Hearst and Emma Samms. Of course, Hearst played Ric Lansing on General Hospital, and the actor is a long-time soap star. Samms played Holly Sutton for years on the show.
According to reports, two-time Daytime Emmy winner Hearst returned on July 29 to start shooting his new scenes for the show (via Soap Opera Digest). That was the first day of filming after the summer taping hiatus.
“I am on my way back to the halls of General Hospital to reprise my role as Ric Lansing. I’m super-excited about it; it definitely came as a pleasant gift and a surprise,” Rick said on Instagram. I’m looking forward to being able to take [on] the story that’s going to be coming up. It’s a lot of exciting stuff.”

Emma Samms will reprise her role as Holly Sutton, and her return will be part of Jonathan Jackson’s return as Lucky Spencer. Holly was last on the show in 2023. Samms originally appeared on General Hospital from 1982 to 1985. She then returned from 1992-1993 and then in 2006, 2009, 2012-2013, 2015, 2020, and 2022-2023.
“It has been and continues to be a joy for me to work on this show. I feel so comfortable there. Everyone’s so welcoming to me,” Samms said about her return (via Soap Opera Digest).
General Hospital Fans Overwhelmed With New Characters
Sometimes it seems that favorite characters don’t have enough time to make a note on the daily soap. This makes some General Hospital fans frustrated that new characters are further pushing their favorites out of screen time.
While some fans might be happy with the returns, others on social media feel that adding new characters and bringing back old ones is an excuse to dismiss “bad writing.”
- “Doing unnecessary casting instead of delivering consistently good stories”
- “Wow General hospital budget must be thru the roof. Plus the expensive cast members they have now”
- “Ugh I hated Ric Lansing. He was a criminal who was busy kidnapping women, holding hostage in a panic room to take the baby to to Liz and other criminal activities yet was a lawyer who acted like a saint”
