‘WCTH’ Showrunner On Wedding ‘Unlike Anything Ever Seen In Hope Valley’
In WCTH Season 11, Hearties finally got a wedding. Mei and Mike tied the knot in one of the most beautiful weddings ever. However, showrunner Lindsay Sturman recently shared that this was not put together hastily. What sorts of details and research did those who created When Calls The Heart go through so that fans could get something so special that it was unlike anything ever shown on the Hallmark series?
WCTH Characters Found Their Perfect Match
Hearties were treated to a gorgeous wedding in the WCTH Season 11 finale, entitled “Anything For Love.” Lindsay Sturman, the showrunner for the long-running Hallmark series talked to TV Guide about this special event. That includes the painstaking detail put into costumes and setting. “We wanted to show a wedding that was unlike anything that we have ever seen in Hope Valley, and bring both Mei and Hickam’s background and family culture into their ceremony.” But first, they had to find each other.
She shared that this match happened after both characters, portrayed by Amanda Wong, and Ben Rosenbaum, had been “so unlucky in love.” Therefore, when they started to realize that the other was perfect, their romance bloomed. Then, the writers got busy trying to get a wedding happening before the season ended.

Hallmark Series Worked With Cultural Consultant
A Hope Valley wedding just doesn’t happen. Moreover, when WCTH showrunner Lindsay Sturman and her team planned this whirlwind wedding, they worked with a “wonderful cultural consultant.” In addition, the production team “did a ton of historical research of what would have happened in that time so we could get the different asked of the wedding right.”
Some of the details included using materials of this era. Also, they wanted “the exact shade of red that would have been available in that era.” Also, they wanted to include some things relevant to the Hickam family. That would be the boutonniere flowers. Next, the wedding cake was a marriage of the two family cultures that included the “double happiness symbols.”
Lastly, this season Hearties got to know Hickam’s family. In the final episode, they got to meet Mei’s brother.
