Dr. Jenn Ashton Leaving ‘GMA’ For New Job, What Is It?
Dr. Jen Ashton is leaving Good Morning America. She has been working as the chief medical correspondent on ABC News. After 13 years with the network, she is stepping down to focus on other endeavors. Ashton also explains why it was time to step down and what is next.
Here is what Dr. Ashton is doing now that she is leaving GMA.
Dr. Jen Ashton Announces Departure From Good Morning America
Dr. Jen Ashton, the GMA3 co-host and ABC chief medical correspondent, plans to leave the network in June when her contract expires. According to Ashton, she has big plans to focus on addressing the challenges of menopause health and weight management.
Ashton will do this with her new women’s wellness company, Ajenda, for which she serves as founder and CEO. She appeared on The View on Tuesday. She said that she is looking forward to getting more sleep after leaving Good Morning America.
Dr. Ashton said that she is excited to get to start “sleeping past four or five in the morning” (via The US Sun). However, she sees her next step as being a serious one as she says she subscribes “to the fact that when the universe sends you a message, you should listen to it.”
She said she has seen an “upswell of interest” for menopause health and weight management in women’s health in the United States. Jen wants to help make a difference. “We’re facing an obesity epidemic, and menopause and perimenopause and women’s health is literally in a spotlight like never before,” she said.
Dr. Ashton said that she plans to devote 100 percent of her time and effort into the new company. She said she plans to use the skills she picked up in her time at ABC to grow it.
ABC Supporting Jen Ashton On Her Next Journey
Dr. Jen Ashton said that when she told ABC News president Kim Godwin and Debra OConnell her decision, the first thing they did was ask if there was anything they could do to change her mind about leaving.

However, when she said there wasn’t because she felt strongly about her new mission, they said they would stand behind her on the venture. “I think that’s really unusual in this business in this day,” Ashton said.
“She will always have a home at ABC, and we wish her only the best as she continues her unwavering advocacy of women’s health,” O’Connell said in a statement (via THR).
