Danger In The Dorm Is Based On True Story
Lifetime’s Ripped From The Headlines original movie Danger In The Dorm is based on a true crime story. According to Today, Danger In The Dorm was one of Anne Rule’s earliest short stories. The story took place in the 70s, however, this movie takes place in the 90s.
This true crime story took place at Oregon State University. There had been three attacks on female students on campus. The first two women were hit on the head. Sadly, Nancy Wykoff, who was only 18, was killed. But, the police did not find a connection. It did not look like the same person was doing this. However, the result was “sheer terror” on campus. The women on campus were afraid they would be killed.
But, the co-eds on campus took matters into their own hands. The students formed patrols. Guys who carried baseball bats escorted women across campus. Despite some hoaxes, this seemed to give the female students some sense of safety.
Eventually, they found and arrested a student who live in the same dorm as Nancy Wykoff. He was Marlowe James Buchanan. What is unusual is that he confessed to killing her but did not confess to murdering her. He was an engineering student with a lot of promise, but his demeanor did not look like a murderer. He seemed very young and very unsuspecting.
He did finally get released after 10 years in jail, and he was “credited with several patents.” But, no one ever found out who tried to hurt the other two women on this campus. That is an unsolved mystery.
Don’t miss the premiere of Danger In The Dorm on Sunday, June 16, at 8 p.m., Eastern, on the Lifetime Channel.
