Pat Sajak, Host Of ‘Wheel of Fortune’, Says Goodbye After Four Decades
Pat Sajak hosted his last episode of the popular TV Game Show Wheel of Fortune on June 7, 2024, after a 41-year run. Sajak, 77, has been the host of the widely-popular puzzle game show since it was on network daytime television in 1981. On the final episode of Season 41, he praised long-time co-host Vanna White, saying “Finally, to my professional other half, dear Vanna. Like me, she takes the show very seriously, but not herself.” Sajak and White have shared many memorable moments over the years. They won’t let Pat’s retirement keep them apart.
“While I’ll very much miss working with her, I take solace in the fact that we live about five miles apart, so we’ll see plenty of each other.”
Vanna Says Her Emotional Goodbye
On June 6, 2024, one day before Pat’s last episode, Vanna White got emotional while she reminisced over the last 41 years. White, who has been a co-host on Wheel of Fortune since 1982, looked back fondly over the memories they shared both on and off-screen. “What an incredible and unforgettable journey we’ve had. And, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it… with you.” White said as she struggled to hold back tears. The good news is Pat won’t be straying far from the Wheel of Fortune family just yet. Suzanne Prete, EVP of Game Shows at Sony Television commented to PEOPLE that while he is retiring, Pat Sajak has agreed to be a consultant on the show for three years following his retirement.
What Else Is Next For Pat Sajak?
In an interview with his daughter Maggie Sajak, who is a Social Correspondent for Wheel of Fortune, Pat teased that he is ready to enjoy having grandkids. Maggie, 29, along with older brother Patrick Sajak, 33, does not have any kids yet. In addition to joking with his daughter about grandkids Sajak will also be playing a role in a stage production of Prescription: Murder in 2025. Sajak will be taking on this role alongside friend Joe Moore, a Hawaii newscaster on KOHN-TV.
The Future Of Wheel of Fortune
Thankfully, the game show will not be retiring with it’s beloved host. After Pat’s ‘final spin’ the show will return in September 2024 with a brand new host – Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest will be joining Vanna White to host Season 42 of Wheel of Fortune. “I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak.” Seacrest said upon the announcement of his new role. Even though Pat Sajak’s retirement was announced just under a year ago on June 12, 2023, fans are going to have a hard time saying goodbye to the fabulous duo of Pat Sajak and Vanna White who, together, have turned this simple game of hangman into so much more.
