New ‘Office’ Show Coming To Peacock: What You Need To Know

The Office is coming back to TV. The news broke that the popular sitcom that played out as a faux reality TV mockumentary show will return after its massive success on streaming. However, this will not be the same Office fans watched years ago. Instead, it will be a new show in the same universe as the original series.

Here is what you need to know about the new The Office series and where it should air.

The Office Coming Back To TV

The Office was one of the most popular television shows when it originally aired on NBC. The sitcom was an American remake of a British series of the same name (starring Ricky Gervais). The American version was even more successful, running for nine seasons, compared to the two the BBC aired.

The American version of The Office is still hugely popular. The series ended up as the most streamed show in 2020 during the pandemic when people were stuck at home. Fans streamed 57 billion minutes of the show, and no one else was close. Grey’s Anatomy was second place with 39.4 billion minutes (via Variety).

It makes sense that NBC would want to bring it back and capitalize on its continued popularity. That will happen, but it will end up as a different TV show, with a new cast. It will even stream in a new place for NBCU.

Peacock announced that they are releasing a new Office series for the NBC streaming service. Greg Daniels (who created the American version of The Office) and Michael Koman are bringing a new show where the story is at a daily newspaper set in the same universe as The Office.

What Is New Office Series About?

The new show appears to be the same as The Office in format. The statement reveals that the same crew that filmed the fictional documentary in The Office will now make a documentary about the daily newspaper employees. Here is the statement as follows:

“The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

The new show comes over 10 years since The Office ended its run on NBC. It has since become one of Peacock’s most streamed shows and bringing the rebooted series to that streaming service makes sense. This news also comes after Peacock announced that Law & Order: Organized Crime is moving its new season to the streaming service.

With the new show moving to a newspaper in the Midwest, expect a completely new cast, as it is unlikely Michael, Dwight, Pam, Jim, Andy, and the rest will have anything to do with the new series.

Are you excited to see a new show in The Office universe returning to TV? More so, are you disappointed it is on Peacock, or that the original cast won’t return? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
