TV viewers hoping to get their criminal procedure fix this week were livid to find out that NBC yanked Law & Order: SVU from the schedule. Keep reading for all the details and when it will be back on.

Law & Order Spinoff In Danger Of Cancellation

NBC recently handed renewals to several of their shows. Law & Order will get another season. The flagship show was brought back in 2022 after an 11-year hiatus.

Law & Order: SVU currently holds the record as the longest-running primetime drama on television. It will continue its streak for at least another season. NBC renewed it for Season 26.

The network also renewed all three of its Chicago show franchiseChicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. But one troubled NBC show is facing cancellation after failing to secure a renewal.

Law & Order: Organized Crime premiered on NBC in 2021. It brought the return of Christopher Meloni as Detective Stabler. The actor and character previously appeared on Law & Order: SVU for 12 seasons before leaving in 2011.

Fans were happy to see him back, but the show has struggled in the ratings and behind-the-scenes changes. Organized Crime has had five different showrunners in its four seasons, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The spinoff hasn’t been officially canceled and fans are campaigning on social media for its renewal.

Fans Livid As NBC Yanks Law & Order: SVU From Schedule

The three Law & Order shows dominate NBC’s Thursday night block. However, none of the shows were on this week. The show’s social media account revealed that the next episodes won’t air until April 11.

Shocked fans replied with anger about the long break. One fan wrote, “Augh. What’s with the long breaks?” Another added the breaks are “getting annoying now.” They added, “Considering that the writer’s strike delayed these current seasons from premiering in the fall, we should just be getting back to back episodes before the summer break.”

Another fan was less upset about the break and angrier at the change in DAs on the original Law & Order. Longtime star Sam Waterston announced his departure in February. He played DA Jack McCoy for 19 seasons.

The network tapped Scandal actor Tony Goldwyn to play a new DA. One fan was less than impressed.

“You picked the wrong actor to play the DA on law and order. He’s about as exciting as a wet rock. Maybe you should’ve gotten someone like Jack McCoy’s daughter. At least there would’ve been some sort of continuity there.”Law & Order fan, Twitter.

What do you think about NBC yanking the Law & Order shows off the air for three weeks?

  1. I have been a fan of all the law& order shows for a long time and it will leave a huge hole in the lineup if svu is canceled. Please reconsider taking it off.

  2. They just celebrated making history and the network wants to dump them? This crew kept the L&O franchises going now dump them? Guess they want too much money for syndication?
Leave the show alone so people can see how bad people can be to each other…

  3. I love L&O Organized Crime. the entire cast is great and so are the stories. it just keeps getting better. Pleased don’t cancel it.
