‘My 600-lb Life’ Fans Worry 79-Year-Old Dr Now Will Retire Soon
My 600-lb Life star Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, mostly known as Dr. Now, is making many of his fans worried. The 79-year-old surgeon has been with TLC for many years. He has faced many kinds of patients. Some of them even blame him for his difficult regimen. However, many have respected Dr. Now for his “tough love” towards his patients and his willingness to help them lose weight. But some Reddit users think he’s on the verge of finally hanging up his scalpel. Keep reading to see why some people worry.
My 600-lb Life: Dr. Now’s Next Two Patients
TLC has already released the synopsis for Dr. Now’s patients in episodes four and five. According to the network, the My 600-lb Life star will meet a patient named Abi in Episode 4. Unlike any other patient, Abi doesn’t only struggle with his weight. An accident also left him almost paralyzed, making it harder for him to progress. He has already reached over 700 pounds after being bedridden for seven years.
The fifth episode will feature the story of Rose. At the age of 58, she had almost given up and eaten herself to death. However, it turned out that her family needed her too much for her to go, giving her the determination to turn her life around.
Fans Worry For Dr. Now’s Imminent Retirement
Some Redditors discussed why they worry about Dr. Now’s imminent retirement. According to the poster, the bariatric surgeon looks a little bit worn out over the recent seasons, which has become more noticeable in My 600-lb Life Season 12. Due to this, they believe that it’s only a matter of time before he announces his retirement, which puts the show’s future in question.
Meanwhile, some think that someone will stand up to take Dr. Now’s throne to continue the show. One of them is Dr. Heydari, who has already worked with Dr. Now multiple times to help with surgeries.
- “He’s 79! I’ve noticed in more recent seasons he looks a little bit like he’s wearing himself out. Some of those surgeries take so long, especially the skin removal ones. What are we going to do when he hangs up his scalpel? I’ve been wondering if maybe he will quit operating but still run the rest of the appointments. He has certainly earned retirement, but he seems too dedicated to give it all up.”
- “Actually they already have Dr. Heydari onboard. He saved my best friend’s life when she had a herniated bowel obstruction and he’s a phenomenal bariatric surgeon. I suspect they may shift things over to him a bit.”
- “He seems very nice and well equipped for the job he does. He’s no Dr. Now. What can you do tho.”
- “You know he continues to work because he enjoys his work. It’s very commendable. I hope he gets time to enjoy the fruits of his labor.”
- “Yeah most doctors would have retired like 10 years ago at least, so he’s clearly devoted. I also thought that if he still wanted to do the show, and or keep working, he could still do the consultations, but have someone else do the actual surgeries.”
My 600-lb Life: Dr. Now’s Appreciation For His Fans
Dr. Now also appreciated his fans during the season premiere of Season 12. Last month, the My 600-lb Life star revealed that he’s going to put up a meet-and-greet at his office, in which fans can get to take pictures and have chats with him. He also said that he’s giving away souvenirs for his guests.
Dr. Younan Nowzaradan later uploaded clips from the long line at his office, showing that his meet-and-greet was a big success. Many have also shared their experience of meeting the reality TV personality and gushed over how kind he is in person.
