‘Bachelor’s Lexi Young Opens Up About Having Endometriosis
Bachelor contestant Lexi Young is opening up about her past struggles with endometriosis and the surgery she has had for it. She is hoping to raise awareness about the condition in hopes of helping others. Keep reading to find out more.
Lexi Young opens up about having endometriosis
Fans first learned about Lexi Young having endometriosis during Joey Graziadei’s season of The Bachelor. After discussing it on the show, Lexi went to Instagram to share videos discussing it and what she had gone through.
In her first video, Lexi said, “It is honestly pretty emotional to talk about. My diagnosis and journey to a diagnosis with endometriosis. For me, endometriosis presented itself when I was quite young. I always had incredibly painful periods. Once I was in high school and college, I had horrible pelvic pain, really bad lower back pain, and it continued to get worse and worse. Doctors would give me medications to help subside the pain. They put me on birth control pills at a really young age, but nothing helped me feel better.”
Once she decided to move to San Francisco her symptoms continued to get even worse. Her pain got so bad she couldn’t work very well. Lexi even passed out while at work. She was going to the doctor several times a week to try and gain an understanding of what was happening to her.
At first, she was misdiagnosed with things such as anxiety. They thought she should see a psychiatrist and were saying her pain could be in her head. She was constantly doubled over in pain and could not function and live a normal life.
She ended up moving to New York to be closer to family. Once she got there her pain got even worse. Lexi said, “When I moved to New York, my symptoms got 100x worse. I was rushed to the emergency room multiple times while I was working at the GAP headquarters in NY.” She continued saying, “I was losing a lot of blood. I had really bad abdominal distention.”

She finally found someone to help her
Lexi Young finally found a doctor in New York that could help her. This surgeon changed her life. The doctor validated her pain after all the suffering she had endured.
Lexi continued talking and saying, “Endometriosis cannot be diagnosed through an MRI or x-ray or CT scan or any lab tests. It has to be diagnosed through a laparoscopic surgery. These surgeries are usually quite expensive and it’s a diagnostic surgery.”
She did have an MRI which showed thickening of her uterus. When they went to surgically help her, they were able to extract the endometriosis at the root. She ended up having stage IV and it had even spread to some of her organs.
There is no cure for endometriosis and 1 in 10 women have it. Unfortunately, having endometriosis can cause fertility issues. She still has flare-ups and they can even still be very bad.
