Can Joey Graziadei Beat Gerry Turner’s ‘Golden Bachelor’?
Joey Graziadei arrived as the Bachelor for Season 28, and he might face an uphill battle to keep the ratings high. Did you know that The Golden Bachelor ratings went through the roof and over six million viewers tuned in for the finale? The last time good numbers arrived came when Matt James was on Season 25 in 2021.
Lackluster Bachelor Seasons 26 & 27
In Season 26, Clayton Echard disappointed ABC fans. Actually, he seemed like a mystery choice from The Bachelorette starring Michelle Young from Matt’s season. Clayton left in Week 6 of Michelle’s show and he wasn’t really a forerunner. He struggles to clear his name in a paternity case now, and although he won the heart of Suzie Evans, they later split. His After The Final Rose got 4.43 million viewers, which was less than Matt James’ count of 5.64 million viewers, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Joey Graziadei’s Bachelor could be under pressure. That’s because Season 27 with Zach Shallcross saw 3.4 million viewers tune in for the finale. Although the overall figures are good, until The Golden Bachelor, the numbers slid down each year. This week, Yahoo carried a story by Reality Tea’s Elizabeth Cheema. She opined:
Joey has big shoes to fill, and it seems unlikely that his season will be as big of a hit as Gerry’s.
Joey Graziadei Unlikely To Outperform Golden Bachelor?
Cheema argued that the cast in Golden Bachelor seemed less divided than the younger contestants. And, people admired them because of the “sense of loyalty and friendship … that the original Bachelor show just lacks.” Certainly, it seems true today: especially with the formation of the support group ASKN which includes April Kirkwood, Susan Noles, Kathy Swarts, and Nancy Hulkower.
To pull in numbers higher than The Golden Bachelor, Joey Graziadei will surely have to do something spectacular. Unlike Gerry Turner’s season, Joey and his girls get to travel overseas. However, that happened on The Bachelorette in the past. So, it’s really nothing new for romance on a beach. Bear in mind, that most ABC fans see that in every Bachelor in Paradise season.
Joey Graziadei Has Something In Common With Gerry Turner
One thing that annoyed Golden Bachelor fans was Gerry crying. Crying and the hand-wringing drama that came every time he had to make a decision irritated viewers. And so far, Joey has an unfortunate number of tears rolling away like a river. That might put some viewers off.
From the spoilers, it seems that nothing earth-shattering happened. The winner is already known. Possibly, he would need to marry his winner almost straight away to top Gerry Turner’s Golden Bachelor numbers. However, he is sizzling hot, so interest should remain high once the finale is over.
