‘Bachelor’ Alum Abigail Heringer Shares Advice For Daisy Kent
Abigail Heringer was the first deaf contestant on The Bachelor. What advice does she have for deaf Season 28 contestant Daisy Kent? Keep reading for all the details.
Abigail Heringer Makes Franchise History
Season 25 of The Bachelor was a historic one. Matt James was cast as the franchise’s first Black lead. But one of his contestants made her own mark on the show. Abigail Heringer was the first deaf contestant ever on the show.
She was born with hearing loss and has had a cochlear implant since she was a child. While she didn’t find love with Matt James, she fell in love with Noah Erb on Season 7 of Bachelor In Paradise. Following a brief breakup, the couple reunited and are planning their lives together after getting engaged.
Daisy Kent Competing For Joey Graziadei’s Heart
Daisy Kent is one of the women competing on Season 28 of The Bachelor. She is also deaf and wears a cochlear implant. However, the similarities end there. Unlike Abigail, Daisy grew up hearing.
In fact, it wasn’t until she was a teenager that she started to lose her hearing. She was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease at age 17. Her doctors believe the disease was caused by a tick bite that resulted in her contracting Lyme disease.
Daisy is quite new to having a cochlear implant. The device was implanted in 2023. She didn’t reveal her hearing issues to Joey Graziadei until their first one-on-one date.
Abigail Offers Advice
After appearing on two Bachelor Nation shows, Abigail Heringer has experience in reality TV. She also knows about dealing with online trolls who leave rude comments about her disability.
Abigail had some advice to share with Daisy. She told PEOPLE magazine that she was “excited” to see another deaf person on the show. Abigail added that “everyone has a different experience with hearing loss and cochlear implants,” so she was eager to know more about Daisy’s story.
Her advice to Daisy is to “enjoy the experience and to know that her journey is hers alone.” Abigail also cautioned the reality show newbie about the negative side of being on TV.
“People will cast opinions, be ignorant with their comments or project their own experiences onto her and to just remember that everyone’s path is different and to be proud that she’s taken the brave step to put herself out there to share her story,” – Abigail Heringer, PEOPLE magazine.
Despite the drawbacks to fame, Abigail Heringer believes Daisy Kent’s story will help “so many people.”
What do you think about her advice for Daisy? Sound off in the comments.
