‘1000-Lb Sisters’ Misty Ditches Diabetes Meds, Fans Rejoice
1000-Lb Sisters largely focuses on sisters Tammy Slaton and Amy Halterman. But over the years, their other siblings started playing bigger roles onscreen.
This season, fans got a chance to see their older sisters Misty and Amanda pursue bariatric surgery as well.
So far, it seems like Misty and Amanda are doing well. The siblings support one another and push each other to stick to their goals. They’re experiencing innumerable benefits and Misty no longer needs her diabetes medication.
Online, fans expressed support for the siblings, but a few had questions. How quickly was Misty able to come off her medicine?
1000-Lb Sisters fans have questions about Misty’s health
Fans love watching the 1000-Lb Sisters cast achieve their health goals. However, the show doesn’t often go into great detail when it comes to the surgical process.
Fans were excited Misty no longer needed her diabetes medication. But how was it possible?
“In the Custard Battle episode, it was mentioned that Misty no longer needs medication for her diabetes,” a Redditor wondered online this week. “It seems this was only weeks after the surgery. Are the producers playing with timelines or is it possible to become free from medication so quickly? Regardless, I’m glad her health is improving.”
Many Redditors thought the OP brought up a great point. After all, TLC notoriously moves around timelines when they film. However, there seems to be a simpler explanation for this.
“Bariatric surgery takes away the need for diabetic medicine right away,” another Redditor chimed in, with plenty of others echoing similar sentiments.
Overall, Redditors were thrilled that Misty managed to work so hard and come off her medicine. Others left comments about how the process was possible in the first place.
Redditors said:
- “Chances are she was on a liquid diet before the surgery, which probably aided in coming off her medicine quickly after surgery.”
- “My surgeon and endocrinologist said that I would leave the hospital not needing my diabetes medication. #1 reason I’m having the surgery this year. I’m very excited.”
- “Yes it’s possible. A bypass can essentially cure diabetes within weeks – the malabsorption stops the high sugar levels and need for insulin.”
The family presses onward
After all the amazing progress the siblings made this year, 1000-Lb Sisters fans can’t wait to see where they go next. As long as the family manages to stick to their goals, the sky is the limit.
