‘sMothered’ Is The Series Staged & Fake?
Is sMothered staged or fake as some of the things the mother-daughter duos do seem a little excessive? They bathe each other, shave one another, and more so one has to wonder how much is scripted. Read on for more details.
sMothered Is The Series Staged & Fake?
There have been moments in reality television where viewers have to wonder how much is real and how much is fake. This is the same for TLC’s hit show, sMothered. Mothers and daughters are portrayed as excessively close, sometimes way too close for comfort. Mary and Brittani, who returned after being gone for some time, were bashed for getting colonics together. Then there was Cher and Dawn who were fan favorites but, when Cher was expecting, who was going to be the mother?
Lauren was even inseminated by her mother in one episode. This cannot be real life, right? A Reddit thread was started to address this. The OP wrote:
- New here so not sure if this is something that is frequently discussed on here… but i was watching the show just now and the more I watch the more staged it seems. All the situations are just too odd and i can tell there is acting involved. I know that most reality shows are staged but this is very obvious to me. Not saying all situations are completely fake at all.
They were curious if all sMothered fans knew it was staged or if this was just them. So, what did fellow Redditors have to say?
- The producers are struggling to squeeze anything good from these weird people, so they’re scripting the entire thing. Only Kathy & Christina feels genuine.
- Absolutely staged – the fact that the couple from The Circle are on here shows that these are just people who will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame.
- So much of it is staged now. But even the earlier seasons, it was glaringly obvious.
- Cher was on Fox News as a relationship expert. What does that tell you? 🤣
No Actual Proof
Thus far, there is no actual proof that sMothered is staged or production is manipulating situations. However, there could be some clever editing going on. Or, the cast knows exactly what they are there for so they are playing for the cameras. They want to keep their jobs and be asked back again and it seems to be working for the audience. As much of a trainwreck as it is, the viewers keep tuning in as it is now on Season 5.
