For years, working for Hallmark was not considered prestigious. Instead, starring in a Netflix movie or series may have had more cache. However, in a recent interview with Luke Macfarlane, he sets the record straight. He has starred in over a dozen Hallmark movies. He was also in Netflix’s Single All The Way.
Who pays more, Netflix or Hallmark?
Who Pays Actors Better Hallmark Or Netflix?
Since the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, a lot of actors have shared stories about their pay. Therefore, now that the strike is settled, interviewers are talking about money now. So, who pays more, top streamer Netflix, or feel-good network Hallmark?
Recently, Hallmark Hunk Luke Macfarlane was on the Tosh Show and answered that very question. Playing Devil’s Advocate, Daniel Tosh asked the Catch Me If You Claus star where he got the bigger paycheck. “You were in [Single All The Way on Netflix], was the paycheck bigger [Than Hallmark]?
Luke only needed a single word to answer, “Smaller.”
Daniel continued to ask more questions. Next, he asked if Hallmark pays well. Luke nodded in affirmative and then shared that his “rate goes up” as you continue to work for the network.
It’s a nice thing. They have to air a certain amount of time before you start getting [any money]. As you know, they air them a lot. So., if you end up doing one of the ones that hits and is popular, it gets aired more and more. So, you eventually get residuals.
However, Daniel Tosh did not ask Luke Macfarlane about Lifetime. Luke recently starred in the Ripped From The Headlines movie Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story for that network. Unfortunately, there this opportunity to have a three-way comparison didn’t get to happen.

Luke Macfarlane In Some Of Hallmark’s Biggest Movies
Hallmark has cast Luke Macfarlane many times, and his movies always do well. In this year’s Catch Me If You Claus with Italia Ricci was the ninth most watched 2023 Countdown To Christmas movie with 2.05 million viewers.
But in 2018, he starred alongside Candace Cameron Bure in A Shoe Addict’s Christmas. This movie had a whopping 4.24 million viewers. Daniel Tosh asked Luke about residuals from that movie. Did he get any?
Luke did not have an answer to that. “I don’t know if I’ve gotten [any].
Can Luke Macfarlane Work For Both Networks?
One question Hallmark fans may want to know is if he can work for other networks. For example, he revealed that he could do the Netflix movie because it was “outside of my deal.”
He revealed that he has had “overall deals” with the Hallmark Channel. When he has had those, he would “commit to five Christmas movies or five movies, but I can’t work for any other networks and they can’t be holiday-related movies.”
Romcom fans, are you surprised that Hallmark paid actors better than Netflix?
