Fans Discuss The Bates Family’s Christmas Replacement

Some Reddit users reacted to the Bates family’s “I Love You Day.” It became a tradition for some of the siblings to give gifts to one another. However, some believe that it’s also their way to fully experience the Christmas season without focusing much on the little kids.

Apparently it’s bc the kids get so many gifts at Christmas from friends and family so they wanted to find a day where they could exchange presents and show love to each other. I believe it was Alyssa suggested v day and they called it I love you day.

Others agreed and pointed out that many of the adults have gotten married, and the “ILYD” was the easiest way for them to attend as compared to Christmas, where they could be with their own spouse’s family.

Meanwhile, some recalled that it was the family’s way to replace a Catholic tradition called St. Valentine’s Day. “I was under the impression ILYD was a substitute for St. Valentine’s Day as the Bates Family abhors Catholic culture,” one person said. “Do they call it I love you day cuz they hate Catholics so they don’t want it call it Saint Valentine’s Day? lol,” another person added. Regardless, it seems that it has evolved into a popular tradition in the family to continue staying in touch with one another.
