In November 2019, TLC fans saw a new face on Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s show, Counting On. Well, it turned out that it was Tyler, the son of Michelle’s niece, Rachel Hutchins. Now, his family is bringing in the big guns so they can take back custody of him.  In 2016, he went to live with the Duggar family because his mom couldn’t raise him. Allegedly, she had unemployment and criminal issues.

Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar Got Extended Custody Of Tyler

Not only was Tyler’s mom unable to look after her son, but his grandmother, Carol Hutchins suffered from a stroke. So, in time, temporary custody in the Counting On family became permanent. All through the arrest and trial of Josh Duggar, that didn’t change. Pretty much, he became a part of the family and seemed to get along with everyone.

By 2022, those who followed Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar began to wonder if they adopted Tyler. However, it never went that far. At the moment there is a custody case going on in court. And, it is his grandparents who hire a top attorney to assist them with their case to get guardianship back.

John  & Carol Hutchins Secure A Top Attorney

According to a new report by The Sun, Tyler’s grandparents hired a top gun attorney to fight their custody case. Interestingly the outlet noted that court records revealed “Travis W. Story, Esq. Attorney at Law, [entered] his appearance on behalf of John and Carol Hutchins.” Why is that so interesting? Well, you might recall that Travis was also Josh Duggar’s attorney in his trial.

It seems a bit strange because John and Carol Hutchins’ new attorney works for the same firm as Robert A. Ballinger. According to the outlet, he and Katie L. Freeman “have been representing Jim Bob and Michelle.”  Who is fighting who over Tyler seems to be a bit vague. It could just be that they need a judge to grant Carol and John permanent custody to finalize who Tyler lives with.

What are your thoughts about Tyler’s grandparents getting in a high-powered attorney to get custody of the 15-year-old teen? It all seems a bit confusing because Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were reported to have voluntarily given Tyler back to John and Carol Hutchins. What do you think is going on?
