Why Isn’t ‘Late Show’ With Stephen Colbert New This Week?
The Late Show will not air new episodes this week. What has happened to Stephen Colbert, and when will the show return?
Stephen Colbert took to social media to share that The Late Show will not air as usual throughout the week. Of course, it has fans questioning what is going on considering the talk show has only just returned after the WGA strike disrupted it. The big question on everyone’s minds is when the late-night talk show will return.
The Late Show Guests Will Be Rescheduled
Monday, Nov. 27’s episode was already set to be a rerun of the series. This is linked to the Thanksgiving weekend. However, the rest of the week would usually have new episodes. There were even plenty of exciting guests added to the lineup.

TVLine shares that Jennifer Garner and Baz Luhrmann were set to appear on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Then Patrick Stewart would appear on Wednesday, Nov. 29, with former Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste performing. Barbara Streisand and Kelsey Grammer were going to appear on Thursday, Nov. 30, according to the Paramount Press Express, where all press releases are placed. The whole week will now have reruns. As of right now, the following week will see new episodes again. There is not a list of guests for the week just yet, so there is a chance that some of this week’s guests could end up being pushed to next week.
Why Isn’t The Late Show New This Week?
Colbert took to social media to share the reason for the cancellation. It has nothing to do with Thanksgiving or even more strike action. It turns out Colbert’s appendix ruptured and he is now recovering from surgery. A ruptured appendix is a serious medical problem that needs immediate help, as it can lead to sepsis. As Colbert is the one updating fans across social media, it is clear he is on the mend from the medical emergency. It is a scary emergency, especially as some of the warning signs of appendicitis can be mistaken for indigestion.
He is also in good spirits based on his joke about emails to his appendix being forwarded to his pancreas. Fans wish Colbert a speedy recovery, also picking up on the joke about the pancreas. Some fans suggest that the gallbladder may be better equipped to handle anything the appendix used to.

This is the second medical emergency in two months for The Late Show host. Colbert canceled episodes in October due to COVID-19. During the October episodes, Batiste was supposed to perform. It looks like fans will need to wait a little longer to see the former bandleader back on the set. Other interviews will need to be postponed, or they may be canceled completely due to the timeliness of the interviews.
