‘My 600-Lb Life’ Guest Spills Beans On Compensation
It seems like one former My 600-Lb Life participant revealed a little more than they were supposed to.
When guests appear on TLC shows, the network generally asks them to sign an NDA. These non-disclosure agreements allow the network to keep certain production elements under wraps. If someone violates the NDA, the network could possibly threaten them with legal action.
TLC viewers have seen various reality stars spill information from time to time. But what happens when a My 600-Lb Life guest pulls back the curtain on compensation policies?
A My 600-Lb Life guest reveals they received very limited compensation
After appearing on My 600-Lb Life, many former participants went on to sue the production team for various reasons. Many claimed that things were pretty rough behind the scenes and production didn’t take very good care of them.
Recently, a Season 7 guest confirmed she experienced her share of issues on the show. But she also made very interesting claims about compensation.
Lacey Hodder first appeared on My 600-Lb Life Season 7. She started at 691.2 lbs and got down to 435 lbs over the course of the year. However, it doesn’t appear her time on the show was an overwhelmingly pleasant experience.
In a My 600-Lb Life fan group, fans were discussing compensation for appearing on the show. Lacey Hodder jumped in to share her own experience. She said that her insurance paid for a large cost of the healthcare bills, but that doesn’t mean the show doesn’t have a budget.
“There is budget they pull from to pay for flights/’moving.’ It’s very limited though because usually paying for flights for someone who needs multiple seats you’re left with nothing for the moving budget so that sucked but it’s okay. Also they paid for anything done for the show itself like the ‘therapy’ you see. Those are one time moments,” Lacey wrote. She went on to say that some of the people she worked with during filming were incredibly kind, while others were “crappy.”
Further down in her response, Lacey says that Dr. Now is much better to work with and even called him “an actual angel.”
“I wish they showed what he really is like and says in real appointments. He is so funny,” Lacey continued. “Anyway everyone has their own experience with production. Just remember reality tv is not real. It is a story. It is a dramatization and takes parts of people’s real lives and turns it to make better tv. Otherwise it would be sooo boring. I think a lot of people forget that.”
Will Lacey receive repercussions for speaking out?
It’s unknown whether or not Lacey Hodder is violating her NDA by revealing these huge secrets about the show. Many people are proud of her for speaking out and sharing her story. But it’s entirely possible that TLC won’t be too happy about the situation.
Were you surprised to learn these accusations from Lacey Hodder? Do you think My 600-Lb Life fairly compensates participants? Be sure to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments.
