‘DWTS’ Mira Sorvino’s New Dance Partner For Memorable Dance
Many people remember actress Mira Sorvino for her starring role in the classic 90s film, Romy and Michel’s High School Reunion. Now that the actress is on Dancing With The Stars, it seems like she will revisit the role of Romy White.
Tuesday night’s episode will be “Most Memorable Year Night.” Naturally, Mira Sorvino’s routine will pay tribute to her iconic 90s film. But that’s not all. According to a recent interview, her routine this week will feature a special guest.
What can DWTS viewers expect when Mira Sorvino and her new partner take the floor?
Mira Sorvino’s new dance is very family-friendly
This year, pro dancer Gleb Savchenko is competing with actress Mira Sorvino in hopes of winning the Mirrorball Trophy. Gleb will still perform with Mira this week, but they’re adding a new partner into the mix.
Mira Sorvino’s 18-year-old daughter Mattea Backus is going to perform with the pair this week.
“It’s a contemporary dance. We have Mira’s daughter joining us for the dance and it’s gonna be a storytelling moment,” Gleb shared with Page Six.
Mira revealed that 2004 was the year she chose for her “Most Memorable Year.”
“It’s the year I got married and the year I became a mother,” the 56-year-old told Page Six. “How my heart just like blew up … and my life changed for the better forever.”
Adding Mattea to the dance apparently isn’t a concern. Mira shared that her 18-year-old daughter has been dancing for 16 years and is with a dance company at Tufts University.
“She’s a far better dancer than me, so she’s gonna have no problem,” the actress laughed. “Gleb’s gonna say, ‘Do that,’ and she’ll be like, ‘OK, great!’”
The routine’s connection to Romy and Michele
Fans of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion remember the characters’ epic dance number at the reunion. The song during the sequence is Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” which will be the song for Mira and Gleb’s Contemporary routine this week.
Right now, the pair feels practically unstoppable. Gleb and Mira were thrilled with their Disney 100 performance, which earned them a 21/30 from judges.
“I actually felt transported, like I believed in the moment,” the actress told Page Six. “I was literally living the dream.”
“Time stopped for a second. It was awesome to choreograph that dance and I thought the style really suited Mira. It was so elegant and classy,” Gleb added.
