At this point, Liz hasn’t shared much about her pregnancy. She’s due in November but only shared the news in September. She hasn’t announced the gender or name publicly, though they may have been spoiled. So, she also hasn’t publicly shared whether her baby is expected to have dwarfism.
Dwarfism can be detected via ultrasound later in pregnancy. So, it’s possible Liz Johnston already has an answer on whether her baby has dwarfism.
Update: The baby is here! Get more details!
What type of dwarfism do the 7 Little Johnstons stars have?
The possibility of Liz’s baby having dwarfism came up because she and her family have dwarfism. All seven members of the Johnston family have achondroplasia, which affects their limb proportions. On their TLC show, the family raises awareness of dwarfism and gives viewers a closer look at how they live their lives.
Liz’s father, Trent Johnston, was born into a family that also has dwarfism. However, Amber Johnston’s family didn’t have dwarfism. Trent and Amber went on to have two biological kids, Jonah and Liz, and adopted three children, Anna, Alex, and Emma. The whole family has the same type of dwarfism, which is the most common kind.
Will Liz Johnston’s baby have dwarfism too?
At this point, Liz and Brice have not confirmed nor denied whether their baby will have dwarfism. Brice is of average height, which gives the couple a 50% chance of having a baby with dwarfism too.
According to March of Dimes, “If you or your partner has achondroplasia, you can pass it to your baby. If only one of you has the condition, there’s a 1 in 2 chance (50 percent) that your baby can have the condition.” So, there’s a 50% chance that Liz and Brice’s baby will have dwarfism.
Little People, Big World stars Zach and Tori Roloff had the same odds as Liz and Brice. Zach has achondroplasia and his wife is of average height. All three of their children have achondroplasia. Of course, there’s no way for fans to know about Liz and Brice’s baby’s potential diagnosis yet.
Only time will tell whether Liz’s baby has dwarfism. It’s possible she will open up about this prior to the baby’s birth, or maybe it will be a storyline on a future season of 7 Little Johnstons. This may be something Liz doesn’t want to discuss publicly before the birth, or maybe she has another reason to wait to open up about a potential dwarfism diagnosis. Hopefully, Liz and Brice’s baby will arrive safely next month.
