Doug went through traumatic experiences in his childhood. According to the My 600-lb Life alum, he was sexually abused as a child. His parents also abandoned him, resulting in his unhealthy lifestyle. He got addicted not just to food but also to drugs. Fortunately, he found the determination to turn his life around and sought Dr. Now’s help.
He eventually lost enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery and dropped 222 pounds after months of diet and exercise. The former TLC star finished his episode at 462 lbs. However, things only got better for Doug behind the cameras. He has kept in touch on social media, and many of his pictures show that he has maintained a healthy lifestyle throughout the years. In February 2023, Dr. Now’s patient stunned fans with his incredible weight loss.
Doug’s Recent Surgery
Doug also took to social media on July 7 to share that he just had skin removal surgery on his belly. He also revealed in February that it’s going to be his last skin operation before finally completing his journey. The My 600-lb Life alum also took to FB on June 20 to share an interest in doing a podcast about his weight loss journey.
A lot has happened to Doug since the show. Aside from shedding pounds, he also became a father to five children. Additionally, he applies a healthy lifestyle to his family and often shares healthy recipes with his online followers.

Doug also uses FB as his platform to spread awareness about obesity. On July 1, the former My 600-lb Life star opened up about how society has changed its views on overweight people.
“I feel like I may have a voice in this arena and would like to help others understand their weight and health and move past the things that are causing it,” he added. Doug Armstrong also said that he will start taking action in the coming months to share his story and give tips to others who are going through the same weight-related problems.
