Is Pauly Shore Playing Fitness Guru Richard Simmons In BioFilm?
Is Richard Simmons the next pop culture icon to get the biopic treatment? If Pauly Shore has anything to say about it, yes! Keep reading for the latest update on the possible Richard Simmons biographical film.
How MTV Made Pauly Shore Famous
Paul Montgomery Shore was practically born into the comedian life. His parents co-founded The Comedy Store, Hollywood’s most famous stand-up comedy club. His mother, Mitzi Shore, operated the club for over 40 years until her death in 2018.
Known professionally as Pauly Shore, the stand-up comic got his start at the young age of 17 under the mentorship of Sam Kinison. But Shore’s big break came in the late 80s when MTV brought him on as one of the VJs, a role he held until 1994.
At the height of his MTV fame, he headlined Totally Pauly. The show featured him partying in cities across America, interviewing celebrities as his alter ego, The Weazel.

The Weazel was Shore’s spoof of the stereotypical surfer dude, coining the catchphrase “Hey, buuuuuuuddy.”
His MTV success spawned a movie career, including Encino Man with then-unknown Brendan Fraser.
In 2003, he wrote and starred in the mockumentary Pauly Shore Is Dead. He continues to tour the country as a stand-up comedian.
Who Is Richard Simmons?
Richard Simmons gained popularity in the late 1970s and throughout the 80s as a fitness guru. According to his website, Simmons has sold over 20 million copies of his numerous fitness videos. His most famous is probably “Sweatin’ to the Oldies.”

The fitness personality also has nine best-selling books, including his 1998 autobiography, Still Hungry After All These Years.
At the height of his popularity, he had a recurring role on the daytime soap General Hospital.
However, Simmons made his last public appearance in 2016. His disappearance sparked a wave of social media concern, prompting his team to speak out and say everything was fine and Simmons just wanted to live his life outside the spotlight.
The public’s frenzy over Richard Simmons seemingly vanishing prompted the TV special TMZ Investigates: What Really Happened to Richard Simmons, which aired on FOX and Hulu in 2022. The show sparked a response from Simmons, who thanked fans for their love and support.
Pauly Shore Plots Hollywood Comeback With Richard Simmons Biopic
In his older years, Pauly Shore bears a striking resemblance to Richard Simmons in his heyday. And Pauly Shore’s fans love to bring that resemblance to his attention.
The comedian took to social media earlier this week to share his light-bulb idea – he should star as Richard Simmons in a biopic of the famed fitness guru’s life. Biopics are all the rage right now and Pauly Shore wants to strike while the iron is hot.
“I’ve noticed the reactions to me playing #RichardSimmons in a biopic. I heard he’s living in Big Bear. We’ve been playing phone tag (yes, he has a phone). I’m trying to make it happen, you guys,” Pauly Shore wrote in a social media post bearing side-by-side photos of himself and Richard Simmons.
He encouraged his fans to “hit up” the producers in Hollywood to help the idea gain traction. He also shared his hopes of winning an Oscar in 2025 for playing Richard Simmons in a biopic.

However, he may have gotten his hopes up too high. TMZ reports that while Richard Simmons’ team has been in contact with Pauly Shore, the fitness legend has zero interest in a biopic of his life.
