Is Dancing With The Stars Season 32 at risk of getting pushed back? That’s the question on many fans’ minds as the premiere date approaches and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue.

Meanwhile, scripted television shows definitely won’t be back in time for the start of the fall TV season. Drew Barrymore decided to bring her talk show back, but then changed her mind after receiving pushback.

No one can say with certainty what will happen, but fans can draw some conclusions based on the evidence. See what TV Shows Ace discovered.

Could ABC push back DWTS Season 32?

As Parade points out, many live television shows planned to return this fall, only to backtrack on the decision. Now, many DWTS fans are worried that their favorite dance competition could follow.

Although it’s a notable concern, there are indeed exceptions as to who is on strike at the moment.

“Variety shows, reality series and game shows are covered under the SAG-AFTRA National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting, which is separate from the film and TV collective bargaining agreement that is being negotiated. So, there is no problem there,” Parade writes.

In other words, it seems that Dancing With The Stars Season 32 will go on as scheduled. It doesn’t appear that the show is violating any striking rules.

On top of that, each contestant signed up for the show well aware of the strikes. The WGA went on strike on May 2 with SAG-AFTRA following suit on July 14. Casting for DWTS goes on throughout the summer and generally isn’t finalized until just a few weeks before the competition starts.

Although anything could absolutely happen, it would seem a little odd for ABC to pull the plug on the premiere date after planning it out all summer long.

The contestants are very aware of the controversy

In an interview with Variety, former pro dancer Cheryl Burke firmly stated that she is against DWTS airing until the strikes end. It’s possible that many DWTS pros feel that way, but want to keep quiet for the sake of their job.

Zoey 101 star Jamie Lynn Spears is competing with professional dancer Alan Bersten this year. In a show of support for the strikers, she plans to donate her salary to the unions.

“While everybody else in my community is on strike, I have this unique opportunity where I was offered a chance to work when my community cannot work,” the 32-year-old said on Good Morning America. “So, I figured I’ll do this and I will donate my weekly salary… to just give back to them at a time where they can’t give back to themselves.”

If the Dancing With The Stars Season 32 premiere goes on as scheduled it will be out on Tuesday, September 26. Tune into ABC at 8 PM Eastern time each Tuesday night to catch all the action live.
