‘General Hospital’ Rena Sofer Back As Lois To Save Ned Ashton?
Fan-favorite Rena Sofer is returning to General Hospital after a 26-year absence. Will she play Lois or a new character? Keep reading for everything we know about this shocking casting announcement.
Actress Left CBS Soap In 2022
Actress Rena Sofer has a long history in television. She got her start on the soap Another World in the role of Joyce Abernathy in 1987.
She went on to play Amelia “Rocky” McKenzie on Loving from 1988 to 1991. However, her most famous role among soap fans is her stint as Lois Cerullo on General Hospital. She played the feisty Brooklynite from 1993 to 1997.
Lois grew up in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. When she came to Port Charles, she revealed she was a childhood friend of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard.) She started a record company, L&B Records, with Sonny’s then-girlfriend Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil.)
It was through the record company that Rena Sofer’s character later became a Quartermaine by marriage after falling for Eddie Maine, Ned Ashton’s rockstar alter ego. Ned is, of course, Tracy Quartermaine’s son.
The soap couple had a daughter, Brook Lynn, currently played by Amanda Setton.
Soap actress Lesli Kay briefly played Lois as a recast in 2005.
Rena Sofer was married to her co-star Wally Kurth (Ned) in real life from 1995 to 1997. They share one child together, Rosabel Rosalind Kurth.
After leaving GH, Sofer had roles on several primetime shows, including Melrose Place and 24. She also starred in the Hallmark Channel movie Always and Forever.
In 2013, Rena Sofer returned to her soap roots, joining The Bold & The Beautiful as Quinn Fuller. She left the show in 2022.

Over on GH, Ned Quartermaine is having a bout of amenia that makes him think he’s Eddie Maine again. Fans have been clamoring for Rena Sofer to make a surprise return.
And it is finally happening!
Rena Sofer Returning To General Hospital
On September 14, news broke on multiple outlets that Rena Sofer is returning to her old stomping grounds after 26 years. It’s no secret that she will be playing Lois Cerullo again.
But the question is – how will Ned’s current wife, Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), react to his old flame returning to town?
Will Lois be the one to bring Ned back to reality?
TV Line reports that Rena Sofer has already begun filming and will appear on-screen in October.
More GH News
Rena Sofer’s return isn’t the only casting shake-up happening on GH. Just a few weeks ago, news came out that Kassie DePaiva is joining the show. She’ll be bringing her One Life To Live character Blair Cramer to Port Charles. Rumor has it that Blair has a connection to Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight.)
Long-time GH vet John J. York just shared some sad news with fans. He’ll be off the show for a few months amid a health battle. Click here to read more about what’s going on with him.
