Keep reading to see what she had to say about paying tribute to the fallen matriarch.
Whitney Way Thore discusses the choice to film Babs’ funeral
When My Big Fat Fabulous Life returns, one key cast member won’t return. Sadly, Babs Thore passed away in December 2022. And as her daughter notes, viewers will definitely feel Babs’ absence this season.
“It’ll be the first season without my mom, and it starts with her funeral, so that’s going to be really difficult I think for us as a family to watch,” Whitney shared with PEOPLE ahead of the Season 11 premiere.
“When my mom was dying, she was in the ICU for about a month and we expected that she would die. And my executive producer had reached out to me very sensitively and said, would you like us to film this?” the TLC star remembered. She revealed that she consulted with her father Glenn, who immediately agreed.
“The way that he kind of thinks about it is that my mother was someone who was loved very publicly and that she should be mourned publicly. He, like, inserted Princess Diana or the Queen of England, all that,” she laughed.
Without a doubt, MBFFL viewers are really going to miss Babs. Amid her grief, Whitney admits that their support really helped her family heal.
“When my mother died, oh my God, the support was so incredible,” she told PEOPLE. “It was amazing to see how many people my mother affected and how she’s going to live on in so many people’s memories for the rest of their lives. That was really amazing.”
MBFFL Season 11 will center around healing and togetherness
According to Whitney, fans can expect to see the family really band together after Babs’ funeral. They really lean on each other during their time of grief.
Hunter and Whitney will have to work together to help their father.
“I wanted [Glenn] to have some joy in his life and we had to find things to give him a reason to live, honestly, because he literally said to me that he did not want to live without my mother. Some scary things that you don’t really want to hear from someone you love. I think the hardest thing for both my brother and me is seeing my dad like that,” the MBFFL star shared in the interview.
Fans can catch new episodes of My Big Fat Fabulous Life starting Tuesday, September 5 at 9 PM eastern time on TLC. Will you tune in? Share what you think in the comments and check back for the latest updates on Whitney Way Thore and her family.
