‘Golden Bachelor’ The Real Reason Gerry Turner Signed On

Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner signed up for the show, why?
Variety caught up with Gerry Turner to talk bout all things Golden Bachelor. Plus, they took a deeper dive into why he wanted the role and what he hopes to find.
The show started filming earlier this week and his journey is officially underway. Just before heading to the mansion, he was asked several questions. How did he end up being the new lead?
Gerry shared that the possibility of The Golden Bachelor happened well before Covid hit the nation. He wasn’t dating anyone, he hadn’t met the close friends he has now and he felt overall just down on his luck. So, he happened to see the ads looking for a new senior lead. Gerry mentioned it to his daughters who are huge fans of The Bachelor franchise. With their support, Gerry filled out the online application.
Within several days he got a phone call. Of course, it was all put on hold when the world shut down due to the pandemic. However, this year around roughly February, Gerry got the call they were ready to proceed with the show. He said, “It’s been off to the races since then.”
Gerry was asked if he really believed this could all become a reality when he first applied. He said, “No, it did not. It was almost like, I’m really bored and I’m going to fill my time with something, and this looks as interesting as anything else. So, no. To answer your question, I didn’t really grasp the reality of it getting to this point.”
How he hopes it all will end
Gerry shared that his daughters are big fans and got him watching some too. Although admitting he isn’t a faithful follower, he has watched more than he’s not watched.
He was skeptical at first of the process. However, now he believes it can all work out. He said, “I do. At first I thought, there’s no way. I was really skeptical. But as I’ve thought about it and I’ve seen the process evolve and so forth, I really do think it’s possible. So we’ll see. I’m hopeful. Very hopeful.”
As far as how he hopes it all ends, Gerry said a reasonable goal is to find someone he feels is the right person and be able to see in her eyes that she feels the same. He’s not focusing on the timeline but rather on the chemistry. Gerry is looking for the belief that if it’s real then something can become permanent outside of the show.
Here’s hoping Gerry finds exactly what he’s looking for. While he didn’t have much say in who was cast, he did mention he would like someone who enjoys pickleball or golf in order to stay active and healthy. He also requested women between the ages of 60-70 but also said it’s okay if those lines are blurred a little bit.
