‘Today’ Why Was Hoda Kotb MIA & Replaced With Fan Favorite?
Today host Hoda Kotb was MIA and replaced with a fan favorite on Monday. Naturally, fans may be wondering where Hoda was and whether all is good at her home and with her family. Little changes don’t typically cause alarm. The anchors are occasionally shaken up and viewers get to see a different lineup at times. But still, fans are eager to know what happened to Hoda. On Monday, August 7, fans were hit with an unexpected change to the lineup. Hoda was supposed to be on, as expected. But she had a last-minute absence. In her place was fan favorite Craig Melvin. On the morning talk show, Craig took a seat beside Savannah Guthrie, which is where Hoda typically sits. Savannah explained, “So happy you’re with us. Hoda’s got the morning off.”
So, while fans weren’t disappointed by Hoda’s replacement and loved getting to see more of fan-favorite Craig, they were still curious about her absence. Why was she MIA?
Why was Hoda Kotb MIA?
It turns out that Hoda was doing something very important when she missed Today on Monday. She had an early morning on Sunday and needed to recover on Monday.
On her Instagram page, the Today anchor shared a photo of herself with her daughters, Hope and Haley. Her mom, Semiha, was also there. The four ladies were hanging out on the couch watching the Women’s World Cup on TV. They had to turn it on at 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. So by the time Monday morning rolled around, Hoda just couldn’t make it to work.
While welcoming Craig onto the show, Savannah mentioned Hoda’s absence. She said, “She’s probably at Simone Biles’ house right now and is like ‘Go Simone!’”

Hopefully, Hoda Kotb was able to catch up on some sleep after bonding with her lovely daughters and mother. Though fans often miss this anchor when she’s not around, they are glad to see her prioritizing time with her kids.
