‘Sister Wives’ Real Reason Kody Brown Joined Polygamy?
So why exactly did Kody Brown become a polygamist in the first place anyway?
Many Sister Wives fans suspect that Kody loves fame and attention, hence his desire to star in his own reality TV show. But he was still a polygamist long before TLC ever reached out to the family.
So what sparked his interest in the lifestyle in the first place? Redditors discussed their theories online.
Did Kody Brown’s father pressure him to take multiple wives?
Did Kody Brown join polygamy due to parental pressure? That’s what at least one Sister Wives viewer believes anyway.
“Kody Became a Polygamist to Please his Father,” one Redditor shared on the platform this week. “Kody said his dad essentially felt he was most unlikely to succeed. He was on his [Mormon] mission when his dad decided him and his wife should be polygamists. I think his feeling of unworthiness made him willing to completely change his religion and belief system. He wanted to be accepted by his dad so he joined the new (to his family) religion, and it went well for a really long time.”
The OP went on to allege that Kody Brown really had a great setup when he only had three wives. Meri and Janelle worked while Christine took care of the children. Then he met Robyn and OP felt that his feelings toward polygamy completely changed.
“I think his anger and bitterness at his now ex-wives is because he never wanted to be a polygamist and he feels like he’s cheating on his wife,” the Redditor continued. “He resents their existences in his life, bye despite ALL of his therapy he will never admit to them that this simply wasn’t what he wanted in life.”
Redditors react to the OP’s assessment
Sister Wives fans generally have a wide range of varying opinions. However, it really seems that several others really agreed with the OP in this situation.
“I agree. Kody is going through the same midlife re-evaluation that the OG wives are going through. They were all young and easily influenced when they agreed to live as polygamists,” another user replied. They went on to say that Kody definitely began to change once his father passed away. However, a few pointed out that Robyn was the favorite wife long before Winn died.
“I think you have a very interesting (and likely accurate) theory,” another Redditor chimed in. “Last season … when talking about his fallout & lack of communication with Gabe & Garrison, he says ‘he has daddy issues and now his boys have daddy issues’ … It’s at least one thing about himself, emotionally, that he seems to acknowledge. And I agree it’s very likely that he became a polygamist to please his father.”
