Lauren Cohan Has Big News About ‘Walking Dead’ Spin-Off
Lauren Cohan has some big news concerning her upcoming Walking Dead spinoff series, Dead City. There are three different Walking Dead spinoffs coming and one will feature Maggie and Negan. This gives cast members from the original show a chance to continue their stories outside the main series, with Daryl Dixon getting one and a Rick Grimes/Michonne series also coming.
Here is what Cohan had to say about her spinoff and what fans can expect.
Lauren Cohan surprises fans with Walking Dead: Dead City news
The main The Walking Dead series ended after 13 seasons and Fear the Walking Dead ends with its next season. However, that will not mark the end of the franchise. There are three spinoff series coming and one of them will feature Maggie and Negan heading to New York City.
The spinoff is titled The Walking Dead: Dead City and follows up on Maggie and Negan’s relationship after the original show ended. Fans will remember that Negan made his first appearance by killing Maggie’s husband Glenn while she sat there, pregnant with their child, and watched. While Rick ended up letting Negan into their society after he served time behind bars, Maggie never forgave him. However, by the end of the series, she had come to terms with it, although she said she would never forgive him for what he did.
Their story continues in Dead City. In the new series, a group of survivors kidnaps Maggie and Glenn’s son, Herschel, and she goes to Negan for help. This will take the franchise to New York City, which will allow it to have a completely different look than the rest of the show, where Atlanta was the only real big city that showed up and the rest was in the country. On top of skyscrapers and plenty of places for Walkers and evil humans to hide, it also looks like Maggie and Negan are still not on the same page.
However, this might just be the start. While the show was just announced as a single season, Lauren Cohan spoke to the New York Post and said that there is a chance for a lot more. “We’re definitely set up to go beyond [the first season],” Cohan said. She also said that there is enough material here to lead to up to five seasons. It is just up to the fans to determine if it is popular enough for more.
What is coming for The Walking Dead?
On top of Maggie and Negan going to New York City for something completely different, the sequels will also open up a lot of new material that the regular show never dealt with. The Daryl Dixon series follows him as he left the community to search for Michonne and Rick. However, Daryl ended up sidetracked and sent across the world. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon takes place in Paris, France. This is the first time the franchise went out of the United States, other than a short stint in Mexico in Fear.
The other spinoff series has fans really excited. In that one, Michonne and Rick Grimes will finally reunite in what Danai Gurira called a “love story.” That series just wrapped filming and will see what happened to Rick after a CRM helicopter picked him up and took him away from the main series. The finale post-credits showed Rick escaping, but being forced back by the CRM. Michonne appears to be coming to the rescue.
