LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna To Guest Star On ‘NCIS: Hawaii’ Season 3
NCIS: Hawaii fans were surprised to see in the Season 2 finale “Dies Irae” that LL Cool J is reprising his role as Sam Hanna. Moreover, his NCIS: Los Angeles role will continue throughout Season 3.

LL Cool J Is Joining NCIS: Hawaii Season 3
Fresh off of the NCIS: LA finale, LL Cool J (aka Todd Smith) has hopped over to the newest of the franchises for Season 3. According to TV Line, his cameo on the NCIS: Hawaii finale episode was just the start for the former rapper.
In this episode, Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), and Whistler (Tori Anderson) were in serious trouble. They were trying to escape Adrian Creel’s heavily armed team when one of the bad guys went down thanks to a sharpshooter.
More so, a phone call revealed who the marksman on the hill was. It was Special Agent Sam Hanna. Acknowledging that he was on assignment in Morocco, per the NCIS: LA ending, he was available to help out his Tennant and his friends at the NCIS: Hawaii office.
However, after Maggie Shaw (Julie White) got away, it seemed that Season 3 was set up to be a manhunt, as well as consequences for the team. But, Supervisory Agent John Swift (Henry Ian Cusick) made a phone call and was heard saying, “It couldn’t hurt to plus-up the team.” Then he added, “I have an idea who….”
Transition To NCIS: Hawaii Was ‘Natural’
Vanessa Lachey shared how she is “so excited” to have LL Cool J join the CBS series for Season 3. She shared, “This is an amazing opportunity to continue evolving the NCIS franchise.” She added, “And what better way to do that than have Sam Hanna join the team.”
While the general news is that the NCIS: LA alum will be a very special guest star throughout Season 3, Sam Hanna’s role with the team has not yet been defined. She shared that this is the “fun part” of the future of the series.
The fun started with the historic three-way NCIS franchise crossover back in January. Lachey revealed, “From the moment we started filming the triple crossover, to hearing the news of Todd joining our team, it’s been laughs, love, and excitement all around.”
Turns out, the NCIS universe triple crossover was the seed of this exciting news. She then shared how in sync they all were. “We all loved working on the triple crossover, so this transition seemed natural.”
