Is TLC really taking advantage of Amy and Michael Halterman’s divorce?
Many fans were heartbroken to hear the news that the reality TV couple was calling off their marriage. While it will certainly be a storyline if 1000-Lb Sisters returns for Season 5, fans feel for the exes as they navigate this difficult situation.
However, it seems like TLC has already been filming the situation. And now, fans can’t help but think the network may be overstepping and exploiting the issue.
Redditors voice support for Amy amid her split with Michael Halterman
This week, Amy and Michael Halterman were in a Kentucky courtroom to hammer out the details of their split. For whatever reason, Amy opted to drop the domestic violence charges against her former spouse.
According to The Sun, there were film crews present to document the whole situation.
“Looks Like TLC Is Filming Amy’s Divorce,” one Redditor captioned a new thread before quoting from The Sun article.
“Good for her. She was instantly overwhelmed once she had her second kid,” another Redditor added to the conversation. “When he was stuck at home with Covid and she got home to a filthy house fresh after having a c section I knew they were headed to splitsville. If the guy couldn’t clean up a bit and help his wife after she’d been cut open to deliver his son then he’s probably even worse on a regular basis.”
Other fans chimed in and added that 1000-Lb Sisters Season 5 would probably be the wildest season yet.
“Too bad about her divorce…I had hoped for a great family life for Amy and her two beautiful babies,” another sadly added. “I wish them health…happiness…and a good life…”
Fans are certainly curious to see how the split plays out, but are simultaneously worried that TLC is exploiting the entire situation.

Although Amy’s breakup with Michael Halterman probably caused some difficult feelings, the TLC star is trying not to let it get the better of her. After all, she has her two young sons at home to think of.
Over the weekend, Amy and her older sister Tammy joined their friends for a fantastic night out. Tammy is also reportedly navigating her own breakup, so the outing was a chance for the 1000-Lb Sisters stars to really unwind. Their ex-husbands were nowhere in sight.
Without a doubt, this situation isn’t over yet. Michael Halterman probably won’t make many more appearances on 1000-Lb Sisters, but TLC will definitely want to cover the split.
